Interior castle
DB129289
Author: Teresa, of Avila, Saint
Reading Time: 7 hours, 31 minutes
Read by: Denaker, Susan

Subject: Religion

"A cornerstone book on mystical theology, Interior Castle describes the seven stages of union with God. Using everyday language to explain difficult theological concepts, Teresa of Avila compares the contemplative life to a castle with seven chambers. Tracing the passage of the soul through each successive chamber, she draws a powerful picture of the path toward spiritual perfection. It is the most sublime and mature of Teresa's works, offering profound and inspiring reflections on such subjects as self-knowledge, humility, detachment, and suffering."-- Goodreads. Unrated. The way of perfection
DB129552
Author: Teresa, of Avila, Saint
Read by: Bareham, Judith
Subject: Religion
"Of all of Teresa of Avila's works, The Way of Perfection is the most easily understood. Written at the height of the controversy surrounding the reforms Teresa instituted in the Carmelite order, it instructed the nuns in the practice of prayer. Teresa discusses the three essentials of a prayer-filled life--fraternal love, detachment from material things, and true humility. Her counsels on these are the fruit of her practical experience. The book develops these ideas and takes up directly the matters of prayer and contemplation. Teresa gives various maxims for the practice of prayer and concludes the book with her masterful and impassioned version of the Lord's Prayer. "How is it that Thou canst give us so much with Thy first word?" she says of the "Our" at the beginning of that prayer."--

This is the original middle finger of the right hand of #GalileoGalilei as it can be seen in the #MuseoGalileo, Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza in #Florence:

My personal highlight of this trip to Italy so far.

Yes, the #middlefinger gesture is old enough. Even old greeks and romans used it:

Maybe this (and the #catholicchurch forcing him to publicly revoke his findings) is why somebody decided to steal this part of his body when he was moved years after his death.

From now on, this picture will be awarded by me to anybody who is talking bullshit that was scientifically proven wrong already.

@Bruce I have read that some influential #Catholic individuals who supposedly belong to a group called Opus Dei were in and around the Vatican before the conclave began trying to somehow influence the deliberations. I don’t have any skin in the game, as I have said before elsewhere I’m not #Catholic even though I was blessed with Jesuit education through high school and college. I think there will be continuing pressure, probably on all sides, to politicize the papacy, and to the extent it can be resisted I hope it is.

Catholic #priest in Belarus sentenced to 11 years - for criticising the government, as crackdown tightens

In the first case of politically-driven charges against #Catholic clergy since #Belarus became independent after the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991.

#Catholic

We have little in common with the group posting this video and I suspect most of you are not religiously inclined, but this is a shockingly good homily from a priest in #Florida, who denounced Trump's pick of Mike Huckabee for Ambassador to #Israel and demanded that the killing in #Gaza must stop. In a nutshell, #Catholic teaching holds that Jesus' kingdom is within us and not in some physical realm like Israel. youtube.com/watch?v=5maZ7HumgI…

And why are those hashtags banned? So, what happens if I use the #Catholic hashtag over there? Would my account get flagged?
