🌞✨ Happy Sol Invictus! Today, we celebrate the "Unconquered Sun" and the return of light! While we enjoy this festive occasion, let’s also take a moment to appreciate the winter solstice, the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s a time for reflection and renewal as we look forward to brighter days ahead! 🌌 #Solstice #solinvictus

Where I live in North East England, sunrise was at 04.26 and sunset will be at 21.47 = 17 hours, 21 minutes of official daylight. The forecast is sunshine and feeling pleasantly warm at 26Β°C – it could well be the perfect start to the season of summer.

Solstice thought:

I've always thought it was awesome that long before any technology for astronomical observation, our ancestors figured out, through observation only, that the movement of the Earth on its axis made certain times of year the peak of its curve, and other times the center of the transit. And that at both the peaks (solstices) and centers (equinoxes) everyone went "Woo!" and built fires and held festivals.
