25 years ago, on February 13, 2000 the final "Peanuts" comic strip was released. It followed the death of Charles M. Schulz the day before, as he passed away only a few hours before its publication, serving as his final farewell to his readers.

A comic strip showing Charlie Brown answering the phone, responding to someone who is seemingly asking for Snoopy, telling them "No, I think he's writing..", on the next panel Snoopy is shown to be sitting on top of his red house outside, writing on his typewriter, and the words "Dear Friends..." appearing above him. At the bottom panel there are several instances showing different Peanuts characters in some of the most characteristic scenes of the comic strip, along with the words: Dear Friends, I have been fortunate to draw Charlie Brown and his friends for almost fifty years. It has been the fulfillment of my childhood ambition. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to maintain the schedule demanded by a daily comic strip. My family does not wish "Peanuts" to be continued by anyone else, therefore I am announcing my retirement. I have been grateful over the years for the loyalty of our editors and the wonderful support and love expressed to me by fans of the comic strip.
