A pair of seaside rock pools in early evening. The rocks that serve as home to the pools in this image are a reddish sandstone. A delicate patch of green seaweed is visible in the larger pool. The smaller pool nestled in the lower left is strikingly circular and quite deep for its size, most likely eroded out of the rock by pebbles caught in eddies in the tide. A few small grey flat stones are visible in the larger pool in the center. The dry rock face surrounding the pools is scattered with tiny barnacles and small periwinkle snails, and a few limpets, patiently awaiting the return of the tide. The low angle of the sunlight coming from the lower left casts a few shadows. The location of the pools is at Talland Bay, on the southeast coast of Cornwall (UK). I spent many wonderful lazy summer afternoons "rock pooling" here as a child in the 1970s and this images personally extremely evocative of wonderful memories for me period. The rock pools on this beach are unusually fine examples, no doubt thanks to Talland's unique obliquely layered sandstone rock formations.
