Approaching the Moon

Orion is approaching the Moon ahead of our powered flyby maneuver during which we'll pass within 80 miles (130 km) of the lunar surface.

The #Orion spacecraft has entered into the lunar sphere of influence at 19:09 UTC Sunday, making the Moon, instead of Earth, the main gravitational force acting on the spacecraft. On Saturday the #Artemis I Mission Management Team polled “go” for #Orion’s outbound powered flyby past the #Moon. NASA will cover the flyby live on NASA TV, the agency’s website, and the NASA app starting at 12:15 UTC Monday, Nov. 21. The burn is planned for 12:44.
