OK. To those trying to join the Apple Intelligence waitlist using VoiceOver in iOS 18.1, you may notice that nothing happens when you push the button. This is because Apple wisely coded this as a screen modal, and something does happen, you're just not notified of it. You must explore on the screen, and towards the bottom you'll find a button to "join the waitlist" which you need to press again to confirm your choice. You'll know you have joined because it will say so, that it'll notify you.

@DerryLawlor looks like it's only for 15 pro / 15 pro max for now as far as iPhones go, but the Mac OS update for the Apple Intelligence is available on Macs that support Mac OS 15. It's separate from the iOS 18 or Mac OS 15 betas as a .1 update.

I’m already in on the Mac, just waiting on the download, whatever it is. I can’t see how big it is etc, so I’m just waiting.
in reply to Brandon

@serrebi oh yeah, I was surprised that on the 15 pro it was about 600 MB or so. Figured it would be multiple gigabytes so that was somehow reassuring

I’m glad they went back to m1 though. I got 16GB ram probably for the best now.

@kevinrj Even as a modal, focus needs to move inside it once the dialog opens, so we all should be sure we report the bug to Apple's #accessibility team.

something I shouldn't even bother trying to sign up for as my 15 plus won't get the AI stuff.
in reply to JamminJerry

@JamminJerry I don't think the beta update shows up on devices which don't have Apple Intelligence - for me it was at the bottom of the software update screen, although Apple did drop the second public beta of 18 today. People can either stay on that branch or move to 18.1 with a supported phone (sadly not many for now of course)

This is one of those rare times when I wish I at least had an IPhone 15 pro. Considering they're not likely to bring back the physical SIM slot, I might be stuck with my 13 pro forever. Good thing iOS isn't my daily driver anymore :) it's great to have choices.

well so far, the only difference I've noticed having Apple Intelligence on is that when I told Siri that I will go eat it for breakfast, it told me "I won't answer that." instead of "I'm sorry, I don't understand." #progress

haha sounds like it's more direct now. I'll try to see if I can sign up for it on my m2 pro Macbook.

@Lprazdnik I asked it questions like "When was the iPad Air 2 released?" but it then attempted to do a "find my" action on my iPad instead and asked me if I wanted to play a sound on it. I'm not sure, will have to keep testing it. For iPhones, they changed the short vibration in the beginning to something else, like a longer single tone rather than 2 clicks as it is currently.

oh nice! Would be cool to find a recording of it just to compare how it responds.

@Lprazdnik I was a bit surprised at how sparce the Apple Intelligence & Siri settings are currently. I also couldn't find how to compose with it from within the Messages app, nothing has changed there (Same text effects menu, same set of Messaging apps...) so there's for sure something I feel like I'm missing somewhere.

it's possible that some of those features might be rolling out gradually.
