If you have a windows laptop and an iphone, and the laptop can't connect to the iphone hotspot, change the name of your phone to 1 word. Apparently windowz has problems with phone names that have spaces in them.

Figured this out for a customer yesterday.

#windows #iphone #hotspot

Sounds like it would have trouble with the hotspot on my KaiOS flip phone as well, since I named it "Kyle's Red KaiPhone." Fortunately I upgraded my last Microsoft computer to Linux almost 15 years ago, so it's all good.

Now that I see the rest of the thread, I need to try mine, especially if the apostrophe is what is bringing it down. Android I know has no trouble with it, but I wonder if my computer will see it correctly. Fedora 39 running MATE desktop and the standard nm-applet here.

It works! I just got connected to Kyle's Red KaiPhone and had no trouble getting on the internet with this Fedora computer. Oddly enough, hotspot isn't even supposed to be working on this phone according to the provider, and this one has only half a gigabyte to give, so I only tested a ping to be sure I could get connected. Still, it works perfectly and I had no issues with the apostrophe or the spaces in the network name.
