I'm happy to announce the first release of Hieroglyphic, a forked and updated version of TeX-Match, which helps to find LaTeX symbols by drawing them. It's available for download on Flathub (flathub.org/apps/io.github.fin…).

Can we do something like that to search across utf-8 ?
Would it even give good results?

I haven't delved much into the library that powers the recognition, but it should be possible to adapted it to other symbols. Alternative, there are also similar libraries for normal handwriting.
How good the results are, depends on how good the dataset is.
