We've been told Google Play transparently shows what data is collected etc, right? And whether an app has Ads? Well, dream on. I've just checked an app to see if it would fit my repo. Below is what Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.isaakhanimann.journal) says about it (no "Ads" marker), then the results from my library scanner.

Careful what you believe and whom you trust.

I mean, this app is *obviously* provided by Google, so this is all first party...
in reply to IzzyOnDroid ✅

Not giving to the third parties. But what with the first and second ones? 🤔 😁
in reply to Martin Be

@MartinBe 😮 Yeah, but why bother? If there's "no data collected", then… wait, is that a double-meaning? "This not collected data is not shared" (double-negation) 🤔
in reply to IzzyOnDroid ✅

Yes it is double or even triple meaning. Also an langue lapsus as well. 😁

"
While we aim to be as transparent as possible, you are solely responsible for deciding how to respond to Google Play’s data safety section form regarding your app’s user data collection, sharing, and security practices.
"
Google does not check the data safety form. 😄
in reply to Beowulf

@Beowulf No. Not even for obviously wrong proclamations. If even I can detect the ads and tracking libraries … Do I need to expand? Guess not.

"Play Protect only protects Play." (unknown source)

If that scanner is not even capa… No. I said NOT to expand 🙊

in reply to IzzyOnDroid ✅

Data Safety has nothing to do with Play Protect - but I know what you mean. And then there are people like me who spent half an hour answering it truthfully...
in reply to Beowulf

@Beowulf Then they should call it "PPP" (Play Partial Protect) if they do not cover all aspects. Be precise with what you mean 🙊 💨

Hey, can you give an overview of this library scanner of yours? Is it available anywhere? Looks really useful!

in reply to Nandor

@MNandor Sure I can. And yes. And yes, I should hope so. F-Droid thinks so, too, as it's one of the scanners used there (with Issuebot).

OK, let me check: https://android.izzysoft.de/articles/named/app-modules-2 gives you some background and also tells you were to find it. It's FOSS of course. Library definitions are regularly updated (about once every 3..4 weeks – last update just 2 days ago). Help welcome, especially with filling gaps like these: https://gitlab.com/IzzyOnDroid/repo/-/blob/master/LibraryStats.md#libraries-with-missing-details

Interesting to see that on Aurora Store it also doesn't flag - no Exodus audit either.
in reply to Rev. Roger BW 😷

@RogerBW You could send it to Exodus to have it scanned. Aurora should then show it as soon as the report was created there.
