We've fully enabled authenticated media on matrix.org! 🎉

Users may see errors downloading images and files from matrix.org users – please update your client/server, or visit the support room for the client/server/homeserver you use. #Matrix

FluffyChat should support it with latest version v1.22.0 which should be available in all appstores and sources. If anyone still finds a problem with it, please ping me here or in matrix

Guys, did you check how many people will be cut-off by this? None of my matrix clients is able to show pictures now, and they are not that old, and upgrades are difficult because of weird choices of the developers (distribution channels, other breaking changes, ...)

I was hoping this transition would be smoother. IIRC it was announced that all official @element clients are compatible with the change (can't find a source right now) so I thought we were good to go.

That statement is technically correct, but since the compatible versions are not available on @fdroidorg yet, a chunk of the user base is left with a partially broken client for now.

Poor support for F-Droid users has come up several times before. It doesn't feel like it's getting better.

Not every client supports authenticated media yet, and servers not freezing the legacy endpoint can still distribute authenticated media as usual (aka without authentication). So I'm not sure why matrix.org enabled authenticated media that hurry. Dendrite and Conduit (not conduwuit) haven't even released a version with authenticated media yet.

Rarely different software projects can sync up. Updated Matrix clients were included in this build cycle: Element was published on Saturday, but Fluffy hit a server bug (now fixed) and will be built next cycle.
