In early 2023, #Mozilla will stand up and test a publicly accessible instance in the #Fediverse at Mozilla.Social.

it is mindboggling how much money Mozilla have wasted on different stuff up trough the year. They could have with the income they already had, the future of Mozilla main products, Firefox and thunderbird, for life.

Instead they burn cash like no tomorrow and makes are kind of weird projects.

Sounds like a good excuse to build Thunderbird an official Fediverse extension.

I am curious to learn if it will be just another mastodon instance - or if Mozilla will also consider Misskey, Pleroma, Friendica, or one of the other platforms. The fediverse is actually already made up of too much mastodon, mastodon, mastodon.

something like a magic Mastodon share button, e.g. as most automatically possible would be nice. Something hosted in a neutral portal that will magically link to users server.

Great, that covers the server part. Now how about integrating a client into Thunderbird, that would be cool too!

Thank you. : ] that's a great idea.

Thank you for supporting open source projects.

I like that Mozilla is doing this.

I don't like the word "test" here, it makes it feel like an ephemeral experiment.

Fediverse existed long before Twitter turned nightmare even for developers.

I do worry about how can Mozilla tackle moderation. I don't think they as a company have done it before.

@wouter I'd prefer Mozilla just focus their energy and enormous budget on just making Firefox awesome for now. You keep losing so much market share. Fix all the obvious issues first. Stop wasting time on silly things most people don't think are the priority.

Just sharing our enthusiasm for what they do.
