Here's a very early implementation of #Firefox Sync running in Thunderbird Daily!

The bones are there and the foundation is solid.

Though it may be called something else by the time we launch it in Thunderbird 115 (such as Thunderbird Sync or #Mozilla Sync), it's a feature we're THRILLED about putting in your hands.

@thopan SOON™.

Seriously though, we've been working hard on taking ownership of Flatpak packaging and distribution, and the plan is to also offer Beta and Daily Flatpak channels.

Firefox Sync is awesome and I use it all the time. It'd be awesome if #Mozilla would make it easier to have a self-hosted option for this too. I know it *can* be done (I played with it a bit) but it was very hard to get going and I eventually had to give up.

@alexandru_ionut_balan @JogoDetonado Despite its current name, Firefox Sync in Thunderbird has nothing to do with your browser.

We've implemented the technology behind it to securely sync things like your email accounts, passwords, tags, email filters, contacts, and more between Thunderbird clients on multiple PCs.

@JogoDetonado Yes, although tasks syncing may not be available immediately at launch. Probably a short time after.

cool! When i first heard about Firefox sync in thunderbird, I didn't know what the point is, but seeing the address book would be syncable means I could stop relying on Google contacts which would be awesome. Will this be coming to the android app as well?
in reply to CubeOfCheese

@cubeofcheese It's also really handy for having Thunderbird on multiple PCs (your tags, filters, preferences will all sync).

Regarding Android, we do plan to support basic syncing with whatever key features Thunderbird for PC and Android both support.

Wann gibt es einen komplett privat aufsetzbaren Sync-Dienst? Also Sync-Server UND Auth-Server als private Cloud!?

When will there be a completely private usable Sync-Service? So a Sync-Server AND Auth-Server for a private Cloud!?

Mozilla Sync Sounds like a great name for it! Unless Thunderbird gets a rename, Firefox Sync sounds weird

Sadly, I cannot seem to make it work. It is still too buggy for me to adopt.
in reply to Tim

@Tiim We're planning to sync RSS feeds, but it might not happen right at launch (of Supernova).

I can't wait to use this, and I definitely will use it.

But, have you or @mozilla ever thought about turning Sync into an open protocol so people can #selfhost it? Just a thought! Would be cool...
in reply to Felix Urbasik

@fell @mozilla This IS possible, but admittedly not an easy feat to accomplish.

As development goes forward, I suspect that will change.

is whatever you're doing here compatible with the old Sync 1.5 server Mozilla open sourced? I've got that relic running in a container, eagerly awaiting the new Rust version to go public. Python27 apps are scary in 2023.
