Sooo #Mozilla is laying off the people working on #Firefox to do more "AI".

Which is something exactly how many of the users want, current or potential?

Fuck this timeline run by hype. Nuke it right down to the continuum.

the layoffs are terrible and the focus on AI is indeed a bit weird, but not a single Firefox developer was fired. The affected products were Relay, VPN, Monitor, and Social

@alecaddd Mostly the focus on AI vs layoffs is the annoying thing. I'd rather have seen a shift of those good people to the Firefox(/Thunderbird) core.

well...we're (Thunderbird) kinda looking at those people and see if we can fill some of our open positions 😉

also, I shouldn't fail to mention that even tho Thunderbird is part of the Mozilla Foundation umbrella, we're a completely independent entity (MZLA Technologies) with independent funds and a very healthy environment, so we're luckily completely unaffected by the product decisions of Mozilla.
We're actually hiring for 3 new roles, so we're growing.
My heart goes to those affected by the layoff, absolutely terrible.
