No need for spells, eldritch invocations, or inherent abilities to see Thunderbird's dark side. To enable dark mode in Thunderbird:

Thunderbird (hamburger) Menu > Add-ons and Themes > Themes

And for the FULL dark experience, be sure to install the Dark Reader add-on! addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/t…

@Neikon Tries to make the photos dark?! Wow, that's going above and beyond!

Though trying to get dark mode right is definitely hard, we won't lie.

LOL, thank you. Ever since dark mode has been available, I was wondering why the reading pane wasn't dark. Never occurred to me to look for an add-on. Why isn't it available out of the box, though?

@flo Dark Mode in the reading pane still has some quirks! Hopefully we can iron them out and include a dark reading pane built in for a future release. 🤞 😎

@flo One issue I have with dark reader is that it only changes white to dark after a few milliseconds. So every time I open a new tab (in firefox, not sure about thunderbird) I get flashed with a white screen before it returns to dark. I would appreciate a native solution that starts out with a black or dark grey screen before loading anything else.

@skaphle @flo A lot of Team Thunderbird would definitely welcome a native dark mode that did this. We also wish this was a lot easier but we'll keep everyone updated on any progress.

@mfraz74 Hi! We'd suggest asking on the Mozilla Support page - usually our search skills are pretty top notch but they're not working for this! support.mozilla.org. From what we can tell, the answer seems to point to no. 😕
