There's some alert about privacy that comes up whenever I go over certain emails in #Thunderbird, and as I'm using it today for the first time, I'd be grateful for any help getting rid of the thing. I hear about 0.005 seconds of what the email actually is before #NVDA alerts me to... Whatever that is. Irritating doesn't begin to cover it.

A lot of Team Thunderbird are off for holidays in the US and Canada, but we'll let them know about the issues you and others have brought up in this thread. We want to be more accessible to screen reader users, and knowing where we fall short is a start.

@thunderbird Aah wow, I didn't expect anyone from the team to be here, and with help from the community I solved it by checking the box in preferences, but I don't know that that's necessarily the best way there is. For now though, it works. Thank you for responding, I'm grateful.

Yup, we're here and besides the two who manage this account and other socials, we have the resources of the entire Thunderbird Team and community behind us!

If you aren't already there, this is a great group for Thunderbird screen reader users who can also help with questions! https://groups.io/g/thunderbird

@thunderbird I'm a new convert, today I deleted windows mail on all my machines and removed all accounts from Mac mail as well, gone TB all the way haha

Woot! We're so happy you made the change, and we're glad we could and can help!

@thunderbird Wishlist request, but could we have a key to go to inbox, and one to bring up the move folder dialog? In #$$^% windows mail, you could do CTRL+Shift+V to bring up move email to a specific folder, and CTRL+Shift+I to go direct to inbox.
I've taught myself that Alt GOFI goes to inbox directly, but that's longer than a shortcut.
(GOFI = Go >Folders >Favourites >Inbox)
I just like the word GOFI to be honest lol

There's a Thunderbird bug whereby, if you open a message containing a meeting invitation (iCalendar), the controls Thunderbird provides to accept or decline the invitation do not have roles assigned to them for screen readers and cannot be focused via the keyboard. Screen reader users can work around this with simulated pointer operations, but keyboard-only users who aren't screen reader users probably can't work around it.

It's interesting that navigation sounds even work in Thunderbird with the Firefox adon. I mean it makes sense, but it's interesting.

Thunderbird for Mac is also accessible and nice. I finally have a mail client on Mac I can get behind. Never, ever liked the default mail client. Since 2014, I have actively avoided checking mail on Mac.
in reply to Andre Louis

Wait. Since when was Thunderbird accessible on Mac? I tried it a few years ago and it had issues, I can't even remember what they were now but I remember it not being a viable option for me.
in reply to Andre Louis

@Bri It's using the same underlying engine as firefox so I guess it picked up the recent accessibility enhancements from there. That's really good to know for those who want something other than Apple Mail which personally is my favorite because of the message previews, but choice is always good :)
