I tried to switch to Alacritty for a couple weeks, but lack of tabs (and thus needing to use tmux) was annoying enough that I went back to Gnome Terminal. I don't like the sluggishness, but I like almost everything else. I wonder why vte's accessibility support contributes noticeably to the latency, particularly when the user isn't running a screen reader or other assistive technology.
