Dear @thunderbird people ... when viewing my email, I want to be able to hover over a link (1) to figure out if it's obviously dodgy .... please can you make the real url appear in a large font - perhaps as an on hover bubble or something - rather than putting it in small text in the bottom of the window (2) where various other status updates go (and overwrite it), making it hard to see.

We've started improving this in the latest Release channel update, 141.0 We've made it so other status updates won't override the URL when you hover over the link. You can read more about it in the blog post (blog.thunderbird.net/2025/08/m…) and you can definitely suggest the hover bubble at connect.mozilla.org!

Thanks! any chance of something that's a lot more prominent / legible though? Spotting the URL is suspicious is a major part of phishing protection ... is it not feasible to add some sort of on-hover tooltip bubble that displays the link, and perhaps also shows whether it's known to be suspicious or not? I don't see why you'd want to force users to look at relatively small text in the bottom of the window - where they may struggle to spot some obvious signals?

Making a suggestion on Connect (or upvoting one that already exists) will increase that chance. One of the big reasons we made this change because this offered more protection against phishing, but yes, there's is still room for improvement! (Full disclosure, the typist behind this account is in comms, not development, but we get feedback from socials to the desktop team!)
