RSS feeds are probably easier for screen readers, and mastadon can be followed with RSS.

Excelent accessible fediverse client include @Pinafore on the web, @Tusky on android and there are even more.

I tend to prefer applications good for screenreaders and easy access, because they have fewer unnecessary cruft and anit-features in general. Of course RSS isn't made for responding. So thanks, I'll look into Pinafore. I haven't looked at tusky for a while.
