“I am a citizen of the universe, and a gentleman to boot! Remembering the late William Hartnell, who played the first Doctor, born on this day in 1908. #DoctorWho

I watched #TheWarGames - in black and white!

I think it's wonderful; how the story morphs and grows as the serial progresses, how it ends its era dropping so many threads that would be picked up in #DoctorWho future by keeping things vague enough to be developed, rather than be dead ends.

Remarkably for a 10-parter it in no way drags, even the run about eps have a [sort of] point and develops that widening story.

The ending ep kills me and I love and despair at Jamie and Zoe's ending. Especially Zoe's; she grew a lot in her time and it's all gone and she knows, some part of her at the end KNOWS she's forgotten something and I hate it and love it. #DoctorWhoRewatch

Wanna try something. Gonna come back to this every day with a new Doctor:

Mastodon friends! What's your favourite 1st Doctor episode? #DoctorWho

The 5th Doctor's era began 43 years ago on this day, 4th January 1982, with Season 19's Castrovalva - Peter Davison's first story as the Fifth Doctor. 😀 #DoctorWho

🆕 blog! “Mobile Phones of Doctor Who - Joy To The World”

Welcome to this very silly series of blog posts where I attempt to identify all the mobile phones used in Doctor Who.

The 2024 Xmas special is fairly light on phones. Right at the end, we see Ruby Sunday calling her mum.

And a shot of the base of the phone.

It looks like it's the same phone as…

Today marks 51 years since Sarah Jane Smith, played by the wonderful Elisabeth Sladen, made her debut in The Time Warrior on the 15th December, 1973. The story also introduced the Sontarans, the slit-scan titles sequence and the iconic Doctor Who diamond logo! #DoctorWho

I think this is an official BBC account on YouTube putting up full serials of classic Doctor Who.

Some great stuff here!

Some of my picks:

"The Happiness Patrol" (Sylvester McCoy)
(This was a great season, but I don't have this one on DVD. This is the next season for their Blu-Ray release series, BTW, also includes "Silver Nemesis" and "Remembrance of the Daleks", both great)

"Invasion of the Dinosaurs" (Jon Pertwee)
"The Time Warrior" (Jon Pertwee)
(I think had these on VHS, recorded off-air, but it's been a long time since I watched them).

I think that’s one of the many reasons I love #DoctorWho - it is in many ways a chronicle of the history of (British) tv and how we experience it over the years - experiences like your childhood are not the prominent way anymore in this streaming/binging age (for good or ill).

And surely how a modern audience ‘consumes’ old tv changes that relationship so I think we should put increasing effort into recognising the original experience/context. If only for the die-hard fans or tv historians.

The official Doctor Who YouTube channel has posted the entire Genesis of the Daleks serial - one of the most highly regarded Classic Who stories.

If you want to see what the big deal is with Classic Who, it's a good example.

Okay, guys: this wonderful fan-made series I've been following for years is complete now. It has witty writing, some of my fave Twelfth episodes (including the TV series), great acting, and wonderful arcs for the characters. Lots of references and Easter eggs for die-hard fans too.
Give it a go if you haven't already!!

Happy Birthday to Wendy Padbury.

I started watching Doctor Who during the Troughton era and I remember Wendy's introduction as 'new' companion, Zoe Heriot, like it was yesterday. While I missed Victoria (Deborah Watling) when she left, I very quickly took to Zoe.

War Games was a great story. I never grow tired of rewatching it. #DoctorWho

Seeing as how I'm in 60s #DoctorWho in my #DoctorWhoRewatch (currently struggling to understand what's going on in the remaining #TheDaleksMasterplan eps), I thought my #DoctorWhoDay should see me rewatch Josh Snares' missing episodes series. I heartedly recommend.

On November the 23rd 1963 Doctor Who appeared on our screens for the first time in An Unearthly Child, and it's still going strong. Happy 61st Anniversary Doctor Who! #DoctorWho

Today is one of those days I am forever grateful I have my Tom Baker scarf for walking the dogs. #snow #DoctorWho

Remembering the late William Russell on what would’ve been his 100th birthday, who played one of the Doctor’s first companions, Ian Chesterton, in the very first Doctor Who adventure, An Unearthly Child, which originally aired on the BBC in 1963. #DoctorWho

Remembering William Russell, who played one of the earliest (and one of my very favourite) of the Doctor's companions, Ian Chesterton, on what would have been his 100th birthday.

It was the best of #DoctorWho, or it was the worst of Doctor Who - but can a story be both things simultaneously? Find out as we discuss The Web Planet:

I'm so glad we've had so many great Eight Doctor audios, thanks to Big Finish. I haven't yet read any of the Eight Doctor adventures from BBC Books but they're definitely on my list and I have "the Eight Doctors" ready to read in my book player app. I'm one of those people who also feels that Mcgann should now be considered the ninth Doctor; it bugs me that the War Doctor never gets counted. Then again, with what we now know about the Timeless Child, Mcgann could well be the 87th Doctor, for all we know. #DoctorWho

Wishing a very happy birthday to the Eighth Doctor, Paul McGann. #DoctorWho
