The extraordinary Annie Nightingale, Radio 1's first female DJ and a supporter of new music and young artists for the whole of her decades-long career, has died, aged 83.

Her 2020 episode of Desert Island Discs, with Lauren Laverne, celebrates the 50th anniversary of her first appearance on Radio 1.
