Joshua Rogers (who first successfully used ZeroPath to find curl bugs) on his experiences in an open source project where the maintainer suddenly took the AI pill.

„In general, I find this situation … really sad.“

Twenty-nine years ago on this day, #httpget 0.1 was released.

I found the tool a few days later and within a few months I became the maintainer. We later renamed it. Twice. The last name it got is #curl. It stuck.

httpget was my first insight and lesson into HTTP and since then I have kept learning it.

httpget 0.1 was written by Rafael Sagula, who unfortunately is not with us anymore.

So, in my quest to write my book, I have come up with some feedback for @libreoffice

Can we please get a tool or interface or something where we can see all the comments on a document simultaneously, and jump to where they are in a document?

Ctrl+Alt+PgUp/PgDown is good, but it was something I had to look up. If the tool to see all the comments and all that was right there next to the add comment button, it would be very intuitive.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

#JimmyTruth / #Ramon update,

He is now creating multiple accounts on seyyahh.com.tr and doing the same abusive following as always.

I suspect he's created that instance himself, since the "About" page is in Turkish and machine translates to a company that appears to be a networking site for the logistics industry, but there are no such posts on the server.

Consider defederating please.

Do people not really realize what a bad idea a 50-year mortgage is?

At 5.98% interest on a $320,000 loan, the reduction in monthly payment is only $235 ($2,289.45 vs $2,054.77).

Meanwhile, over the lifetime of the loan, the additional interest payments are almost $320,000 greater ($369,201.62 vs $687,860.46)!

A 50-year mortgage is a way to ensure that fewer people build equity and pay a LOT more interest.

#Indonesia names former dictator Suharto a 'national hero'

WTH?!

“On Monday, the late #Suharto was among 10 new names added to the list, in a ceremony presided over by current Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto, Suharto's former son-in-law.”

@sesivany Hm, asi mám něco špatně, ale jednak ten tvůj toot citovat nemůžu, respektive, nevidím tu možnost a druhak ani při psaní nového mi to nic nanabízí a nastavení aplikace taky ne. 🤔 @archos @fabia_man

The Canadian province of Alberta, where I live, has more cases of measles than the entire US. Our premier and our provincial health minister are antivax and they have prevented public health officials from attempting to speak to the public about the measles outbreak or recommending vaccinations.

The province has also decimated our public health infrastructure. This was a campaign promise of the UCP government, both as punishment for mask mandates, and to make sure no organization could ever have authority to require masks or vaccines again.

I want to try this again with more reach.

I want to help my employer #fedihire you, and get you #fedihired.

Do you want to teach ICT/CS/IT/etc in Japan?

Because I am currently stepping in to take these courses but I am the head of IT, no longer an active teacher.

The school uses the UK curriculum, does help with residency for those outside of Japan, has a union.

Teaching credentials preferred, but how they factor in can be variable.

Take my work... please!

I learned about a new tool today from @hj and the deeper I look the more interesting it gets.

This could very well be the future foundation for a lot of high quality audio/video streaming projects in the open source world. They're doing the right things to make it super reliable at the network layer.

If you thought that Mozilla would go against Google, surprise surprise they will not.

So they also want to remove XSLT support from Firefox: github.com/mozilla/standards-p…

Maybe because 90% of their money comes from Google?

Moz is hopeless.

After yesterday’s surrender, we’re launching the largest Democratic primary program that we’ve ever run.

We will not back any Senate primary candidate unless they call for Schumer to step down as Minority Leader.

If you’re as pissed as we are, sign up to be part of this campaign to rebuild the Democratic Party. This isn’t about left vs. right — it’s about fighting back vs. losing. indivisible2026.org/?utm_sourc…

I do not know if he intended to share it with me, but our 11-yo shared a Google Slides deck titled "The New Chat Room" that is approximately 500 slides long, where each slide is students in his class posting pop culture pictures &/or memes & using the Slides comments to chat with each other about them—I knew that students used this kind of hack to get around school content filters but seeing it in action is something else
in reply to Ryan Cordell

Last night the 11yo broke down the Google Slides middle school Chatroom for me:

1. At first they used a Google doc but the infinite scroll was too chaotic
2. In the slide deck each new slide is one “post”—some all text, some images, some both—
3. They use slides’ comments feature to “reply” to each other’s “posts”
4. This allows participants to easily flip between posts using the slide thumbnail navigation, so they can find the conversations they care about easily
5. He owns the file & if anyone spams it, deletes other people’s posts, or gets nasty, he can revert the file to its previous save state & remove the spammer’s access
6. He did share the file with me on purpose, I think because he was proud & wanted me to see what he’d made

Essentially they’ve created a chatroom with moderation in Google Slides, so they can get around the school’s ban on platforms like Discord. It’s kind of brilliant

For some reason, Steve Jobs decided to travel back to the year 1982 and unvail the iPhone at a New York Yankees game, which I was at with my grandfather somehow. Never mind that he hated the yankees, this was two years before I was born, and I don't care about baseball.

Anyway, while we were there, I met this very northern British bloke who asked me if I knew someone called Kara Cogent, a blind woman who would open a sports club in about 43 years. I told him that I did, and I was so shocked about the entire thing that I sat up in my bed, waking up in a dorm room where @KaraLG84 was sleeping. So then I had to explain the whole thing to her and how weird it was.

in reply to 🦇jepyang👻

@jepyang @matthew Yeah. These days "lifetime" really means "optional annual subscription" where you can continue using the old version as long as your OS will let you

Which, arguably, is better than forced annual subs where you can't use the app at all without shoveling out more money

I don't love it, but I do find it a better compromise than forced subs. You get to use the app as long as your OS lets you, & the dev gets paid for future work IF you find that new work compelling enough

in reply to akrabu 𓆫

@akrabu @matthew i mean, no chance in hell i’m subscribing to a fucking mastodon app, i would rather throw my phone into the sea.

i dont mind paying once for a decent piece of software, but marketing it specifically in opposition to the subscription apps before transitioning to a pseudo-subscription model feels overtly deceptive in the most techbro way.

sucks to wait over a year for basic bug fixes only to find out those are only coming to new purchasers (if they come at all)

To make Mona’s magical Mastodon experience accessible to even more people, I’m pleased to announce that starting with Mona 7, features that help people share and engage — posting with photos and videos, favoriting, and reposting — will be free for everyone.
