Time for my yearly Desert Bus 2024 art thread!

To start out with, some work I did for @DB_VST ! From left to right, paintings for call-ins, a representation of ORB and string-worms, and a new Beer O'Clock icon!

Julie (@sugarsh0t) shows her true colours right from Day 1.

Ink, broad pen on calligraphy paper, with paintbrush ink splatters. This is the first time I use this Strathmore calligraphy paper—it takes ink beautifully well and has a wonderful texture.

This piece exists *in spite* of Night Watch and the membrane clarinet. @ihorner, I'm not mad at all, nope. =V

Calligraphy in a mixture of large textura quadrata script and small foundational hand. It reads: "I'm Julie. My pronouns are she/her. My colour spectrum is whatever you can fire out of a glitter cannon." On textured cream coloured-paper, with the queer pride rainbow colours splattered across the page, going diagonally upward (as if glitter shot out of a cannon). Desert Bus 2024, Day 2. When Original Jordan (@RayFK) crosses Jordynne the Upgraded, Jordynne (@sick1y) makes her feelings known.

Had some fun trying to both get a good consistency of watercolour for calligraphy and mixing that "lightly oxidised blood" colour. India ink and watercolour, broad nib, on Strathmore parchment paper. Foundational hand and textura quadrata script.

Desert Bus 2024, Day 3. The crew read Am I the Bushole stories, and suggest alternative recourses. Dan Wu's proposal is, it turns out, occult—and accidentally poetic?

I made the mistake of picking a thin calligraphy paper to do wet-on-wet watercolour, but turns out the buckling, once scanned, enhance the ritual!

Desert Bus 2024, Day 4. Dan Olson is a thoughtful person. Welcome to the unhinged madness that is Desert Bus for Hope; please come again!

I felt like the words speak for themselves and needed very little. I edited and formatted them into a contemporary poem, and added a little accent. That's all.

Desert Bus 2024, Day 7. (Yes, I did skip Day 6.)

A Night Watch Art Challenge for their Beyblades slogan, "If you love something, let it rip!"

In Japanese, the Beyblades anime uses "Go shoot!", so I translated this as「何かを好きならGO SHOOT」.

Sumi ink, watercolour, Japanese calligraphy brushes, watercolour brushes, Western broad nib pens, cold-press watercolour paper.

A logo-like word art piece. It reads, in Japanese, "nanika wo suki nara GO SHOOT!!". The first line is in kaishō script in black, and the words GO SHOOT are in red watercolour. Below it, the English words in italic script and black ink, it reads: "If you love something, let it rip!!" The S in GO SHOOT is extended to create two disks, in a red-to-yellow gradient above and below that evoke spinning beyblades. A light orange splotch forms the background, on white paper.
