Many of the locations of Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' can still be seen today. Scrooge's counting house is thought to be in Newman's Court, in the City of London. "The ancient tower of a church" is described, whose "gruff old bell was always slyly peeping down at Scrooge out of a #gothic window." That church has been identified as St Michael's Cornhill, which looms over Newman's Court. In addition, Bob Cratchit heads home via nearby Cornhill, where he "went down a slide" on the ice "at the end of a line of boys, twenty times, in honour of it being Christmas Eve." Scrooge's "usual melancholy tavern" where he takes his "melancholy dinner" is thought to be Simpson's Tavern in nearby Ball Court, which has been trading since 1757. Recently the Open Gothic reimplementation of the ZenGin engine became quiet stable which let me to wonder whether it wouldn’t be easier to port YAGA to this engine, instead of relying on the Union SDK which is basically a set of reverse-engineered classes of the original ZenGin engine. This way, we get macOS compatibility, future-proof support for future Windows releases, ETC. That means a lot of Yaga’s code base would have to be rewritten from scratch, but that’s with the benefit. Tell me what you guys think, and let’s comment on this issue if you have some valuable insights

Many folks seemed to like my demonstration of the mod for the #gothic #game by #piranchaBytes that allows #blind players to play! So now we have a little follow-up, maybe not something as exciting as the previous time, but no less important. The Smart Map feature allows the blind player to observe the 3D game surrounding in a 2D environment. Since the world of Gothic is pretty complicated with all kinds of polygons living inside it, we needed to make the map a bit simpler but no less functional. And so the Smart Map feature was born; it cuts the world to little squares, 500 X 500 in size, which can be navigated by the player allowing them to see what is going on in nearby sectors. Since Gothic uses the so called Waynet which is used for NPCs to know where we're going, we have a seemingly free pathfinding as well which, thanks to the limitations of #ZenGin is not as simple as I initially thought. The cathedral of Laon has got the best non-chimeric animal sculptures I've ever seen. There are 16 oxen that look slightly stoned (pun not intended).
