I have quite a lot of conversations about the state of tech and its impact on the world, about how I strongly believe in its capability to be a truly transformational good for all humankind, and yet how I feel it is instead a net negative in many ways right now, not because of the technology, but because of the forces and structures behind it, hypercapitalism at its centre. The line I find myself repeating over and over again in these conversations - bitterly, angrily, mournfully, hopefully - is, "it didn't have to be this way." Sooo... I wrote a pop/metal song about it, as I do.

@Scott EQ is just high and low passes I think. But you do have to adjust the formant settings quite differently depending on what effect you're going for and what octave the original line was sung in. The effect I want heavily dictates what octave I sing the source material in.

@Scott For example, the one in the first interlude is the same line as the natural line before it, just dropped -1 octave. The one right at the end was sung in a lower octave, then two shifters: one with no octave change and a slight formant nudge, one -1 octave and maybe a slight formant shift in the opposite direction if I did any at all.

@J_D_X Heh, yes, I was a bit concerned that I was going to be the only one that was pleased with that key change when I came up with it, but it seems to have been well received so far. This piece certainly throws a hell of a lot at you in a bit over 3 minutes.
