If you use the Firefox browser – or a privacy-respecting Firefox fork, like LibreWolf (librewolf.net/) – take a look at the LibRedirect extension (libredirect.github.io/). It automatically redirects links/embeds of surveillance capitalists like Google (YouTube, etc.), Instragram, Twitter, Reddit, etc. to community-run instances that remove tracking, etc.

I think what stresses me out with LibRedirect is how it interacts with NoScript - the number of new actors you trust with your data becomes very apparent. Sure, Google won't map you, but instead you're trusting a bunch of smaller actors with your data, and to not do anything malicious :/

I've been using this with limited success. Sometimes what you get through these links seems broken / doesn't load correctly, while some features exist in the "full" version only.

Still, an awesome idea! And I like not going through captchas everytime I want to read something on one of the corporate services.

@FOxyShelby Only as safe as the sites that are included. So, no, I wouldn’t call it safe. But so few things are these days. As always, know your threat model and decide accordingly (easier said than done, I know).

Hey, it's not your video, and probably not Creative Commons so YouTube link is cool. Though if it could be pushed to a smaller "small web" type system would be nice. Just gentle nudges seem good.
