@Tutanota what are your plans for the following things:
- support of alternative apps and protocols (#jmap because of mobile)?
- outlook-like app?
- drive-like app?
- standard affordable pricing (not considering blackfriday)?
#Google and #Microsoft offer quite a good package if we ignore privacy nightmares and ads. #Revolutionary costs 3eur for 20gb? That 50% higher price for 20% storage compared to #Google. Ratio is worse for #Microsoft.

Unfortunately, Google can generate billions with ads - we can't so the quality in terms of privacy and security does cost a little extra - though it's not a lot, actually.
Due to the e2e encryption, we do not support IMAP, but we've built our own open source apps for all clients, which sync instantly and can viewed when offline.

in reply to Tuta • • •I agree that it's difficult competing with privacy invasive providers like Google and Microsoft.
Here is a bit of a calculation: Google's price on the lowest tier is 50gb/Eur per month (paid monthly). #tuta has 6.67gb per eur per month (paid yearly). We come roughly to 9x more for privacy-preserving service.
Paying premium for a service is ok... But 9x?
Consider this 'thinking out loud' from a random, potential buyer.

in reply to Tuta • • •thank you for taking it into consideration.
Here is another recent experience.
I was asked to help out one SME setting their email. They asked me for a recommendation between google and Microsoft. I recommended google because of better security record. Microsoft nowadays has a breach every few weeks.
They took Microsoft. Reason? Outlook and office. E2EE is secondary here.
Price is around 5eur per month per user with 1tb storage for drive and mail included in this 5eur.

in reply to amackif • • •so here are few thoughts or better to say ramblings:
- most important for the people in that SME was the outlook app. (Also office, but let's put this aside for a second)
- shared mailbox (e.g. info@company.com) and ability to reply for all employees from that mail address
- simple administration (I have to say, Microsoft has it enterprisey complicated)
Again, thinking out load, what tuta lacks is drive that will share storage with mail and outlook clone.

in reply to Tuta • • •in short, yes, because office.
I just called them telling them I am having this discussion.
The reason initially was the bundled office. They just told me they are considering switching to Google (not decided though) because they are super unhappy with the web version of the office and they like Google UI more.
Basic package of 5eur per month doesn't get you desktop apps, only cloud stuff. So they are considering buying 'normal' office 2xxx version and just use that.
