#iran mostly shut down now their own state-aligned national messengers that they previously positioned as alternatives to Western messengers and Telegram, especially for when the internet is nationalized and locked down.

in reply to Delta Chat • • •In these situations Briar messenger briarproject.org is better because they have mesh networking using bluetooth and or wifi which can allow a crowd to communicate even when theres no internet
Meshtastic does something similar but requires custom lora radio nodes to have already been placed nearby

in reply to holga • • •Yeah its too late to set up now. Mestastic, when it can be set up, can provide a more semi permanent network than briar but its just for text messages its too slow for anything else
My hope is that people in all countries will realise that it can happen there too and prepare accordingly

in reply to holga • • •I disagree about Briar. First, solutions don't have to be universal to be useful. Second, far more people already have mobile phones.
Briar is also capable of sending Briar binaries to others -+ I have not done this to verify -- meaning one person with a Briar download can enable all their friends.
