Since you seem to be getting excited about the redesigned calendar in #Thunderbird Supernova, it's an appropriate time to mention that the ENTIRE application is getting a modern UI overhaul in 2023!

You can track our progress here: developer.thunderbird.net/plan…

(That link also leads to our Thunderbird Android roadmap).

#FOSS

brabitom reshared this.

hopefully with the new redesign, comes new accessibility and a better caching strategy. For example, at least on linux, orca and any assistive technology product totally freezes till the huge amount of thunderbird items gets transfered in bulk over dbus, all at once. A good enough solution would be for that call to return items in a pagination stile, keeping track of the current level inside thunderbird itself. A very good implementation of this is done by firefox, the lag is most of the time from the page itself, not the cashing implementation. Also, any webview as in from the rss reader or google gmail sign in in non-trivial cases is totally inaccessible, nvda on windows says unknown and orca doesn't even read it, perhaps that part can be improved as well if you're at it. Thunderbird is an awesome email client, those accessibility fixes can make it even more awesome, so I hope something can be done about it.

Looks nice! But please do not copy the Outlook UX as pictured here (developer.thunderbird.net/plan…) and keep the traditional message list up and reading area down approach as an option.
in reply to JBerg

@jberg Note the "Thunderbird Android roadmap" part of the post you replied to 😉

Short answer: yes!

in reply to JBerg

@jberg Our plan is to get the Android version out the door, and then figure out how to approach iOS.

We WANT an iOS version, but right now we only have enough dev hours and people power to focus on Supernova and the Android version.

Thanks for understanding!

in reply to TechSquidTV

@techsquidtv WONDERFUL! It's a great time to come back. Let us know if you have any questions.

We also Matrix-based support if you need it.

Really looking forward to the new Thunderbird and syncing what is currently K9 and Thunderbird 😀
in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

Awesome! Regarding the #fediverse, can you speak to adding #ActivitySub and where that fits on the roadmap beyond the 115 (2023) release?
in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

Can’t wait! Any word on the iOS version? I remember hearing about it back in May, but nothing since.
in reply to patrick

@patrick That was an Android version, which we're solely focused on getting out the door first.

We want an iOS version, but that's going to be further down the road.

in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

That looks actually good and addresses at least two of my biggest issues with Thunderbird so far. 👍

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox
@SF8910 NICE! It's going to be a fun ride from now through next year. Thanks for being on the journey.
in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

This might just make me go back to using Thunderbird again (after more than 10 years)! Microsoft's plan(s) for Outlook on desktop seems confusing at the moment.
in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

You do intend to keep multiple inboxes in one view, without having to toggle the entire app context between accounts, yes? Because having to switch app context between my 7 different accounts would be a straight-up nightmare.
in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

You guys are on a roll!

The multi-line view is a nice addition and will be welcomed by many.

@thunderbird Personally, I hope and expect the classic "sortable table" view and the quick filter *toolbar* (which allows you to toggle between searching in the sender's address, subject, body ...) will remain available?

in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

With #protonmail I wanted to wait for the native desktop apps, but #thunderbird - this UI makes me want to try this now!

Does thunderbird beta have this UI and features?

in reply to Blue Gandalf

@gandalf_the_blue Not yet, although you will start to see some of the new "Supernova" elements in Daily channel by the end of the year.
in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

was this the redesign that got folks upset a couple of months ago?

The design is looking awesome! I might have to ditch my current mailing app and go back to thunderbird 😄

@wolfie @Ytrezar You might need to ping someone from the Firefox team for that question.

Or try asking here: support.mozilla.org/en-US/prod…

in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

great, realy happy about the new changes and all the work that is put in Thunderbird, it is - next to Firefox - one of the Open Source Software I used for the longest time on any PC

is there a k9/thunderbird for Android equivalent roadmap? Curious to know if it'll have support for openpgp and just to see what else is planned.
in reply to Paul H (he/him)

@pjhenry1216 Hi there! As mentioned, there's an Android roadmap on the same page. But here's a direct link for you:

developer.thunderbird.net/plan…

K-9 Mail does currently support openPGP when OpenKeychain is installed.
