I've only used the Braillenote Apex, Braillenote Touch and Alva BC640.

Display-wise, out of those, I prefer the HumanWare devices: their dots are softer and less fatiguing to read compared to the Alva. I also think that 32 cells is the perfect size for portability, though 40 would be great for desktop use.

Software-wise, the Braillenotes are fully-blown PDAs, whereas the Alva is a simple braille terminal for your PC. The Touch's Android-based OS was, IMO, terrible. It was slow, based on Android 4.4, and just wasn't a good experience. I've heard from @blind_lightning that the Touch+ is better, but it's still only Android Orio.

While the Apex is based on Windows CE, and is thus much less useful, particularly in running 3rd-party software, HumanWare absolutely nailed the experience in my opinion. Perhaps it's because I've used it for 14 years, but the interface is intuitive, blazing fast, and actually very powerful (native multitasking, quite powerful text formatting and mail-merge support, etc). If the CE based KeySoft platform could be easily developed for, I'd probably use it a lot more.
