Who thought middle click paste would be a good idea?
I personally think it is really annoying, more so when I can not reliably disable it as a user (easily, without terminal magic).
Are there even any Benefits to that "feature"? why do most #linux distros enable this?

it saves a lot of key presses to copy text and doesn’t clash with any other shortcuts. An absolute win

@VBB for me it unfortunately clashed with scrolling on touchpads multiple times already, I think on an actually clicking mouse wheel it's harder to trigger by accident, though.

So I scrolled in a text editor and if I was too slow sometimes it pasted my clipboard into it.😕

but middle click on touchpad is three fingers tap and scrolling is a swipe with two fingers. There is a toggle for paste on middle click in gnome-tweaks btw

It is not just a paste function. It is paste from a totally different clipboard, which is whatever you last selected with the mouse.

Instead of select; CNTL-c; click; CNTL-v, it is select; click. It can be a significant time saver. And you never lose what is in your actual clipboard so you can still do CNTL-c/v at the same time.

The nice thing about the middle button is it is not one that is typically used for much else so it is unlikely you will have programmed yourself to use it in a conflicting way.

Middle click paste was fine when actual three-button mice.were on the market. Now we have workarounds for hardware deficiencies.

I thought it was *really* annoying/unexpected when I first encountered it, but it grew on me I guess. I don't have a list of favorite features, but it's probably top 5. Honestly probably my most _used_ feature since I use it 100 times a day.

Is your frustration with buttons or tap input on a trackpad? 3 decades on and I've _never_ gotten used to tap on the other hand. Just constant accidental clicks. -_-

I like having a separate clipboard for different uses. Often I use the middle-click paste for quick temporary things, and use ctrl+v for something I'm copying over and over

Middle-click paste is one of the best features of Linux desktops and I suffer greatly every time I have to use a computer w/o it.

This is the main feature that I miss when I have to use my work laptop (Windows).

Middle click paste saves me SOOO much time, but I can see how it can be a frustrating feature.

I don't have any use for middle click button except for pasting feature, so yes, I like it. Tough it's usually hard to perform a middle button click.

I'm on Thinkpad, so I use middle click + trackpoint for scrolling.
It's super annoying that when I press and hold the middle button but do not move the trackpoint, it inserts the text from the buffer (which also often means that the viewport jumps to the focused field / last line of the terminal where it inserted this text)

@IngaLovinde touchpads and thinkpads are also where I trigger this function accidentially the most
