Say hello to all these people, who contributed their free time to #LibreOffice in November! These are their names and usernames from our projects – more details on our wiki: wiki.documentfoundation.org/Ba… #foss #opensource

LibreOffice reshared this.

I don't have the motivation and skills to contribute that way, but I do have a little money. Why can't I donate to support some of those projects so those skilled people don't have to donate free time, but can be paid for their valuable work?

As I imagine this option (under the #CSB tag), my reward would only be a mention on the page of donors who supported that feature. Yeah, I would get to use the results, too, but so would everyone else.

Interested in your better idea, but...

@shanen Hi! Some developers have Patreon accounts (or similar) so that you can support them individually. This page also shows developers that you can fund, but yes, it's not super user-friendly: documentfoundation.org/gethelp… – What do you think?

I may not understand Patreon well enough, but I think the idea of blanket payment for ongoing work is too hard to track. It also attracts gold rushers trying to strike it rich.

My idea of the #CSB is to pay for the work that is done. Each project should be sized as accurately as possible (with the help of the CSB) and the developers would be agreeing to do a certain amount of work for a certain amount of pay. (The CSB would also help assess the results of the projects.)

@shanen What exactly is the "CSB"? We've tried searching for it, but can't find anything relevant...

I've written about the #CSB (Charity Share Brokerage) idea in various places over the years. Short version here:

The CSB would hold money and help plan projects: Schedules, resources, budgets, success criteria, etc. Donors would "shop" for project to buy charity shares. Projects can vary from new software to ongoing server support to journalism. The CSB idea is older than crowd funding, but with project management and accountability.

Maybe I should write where you searched?

with 51 yoa on my back, I'm starting to get skills. Wish one day to see my name on that list. Sorry for not contributing with cash, salaries in Spain are low.
