Gajim is currently migrating from GTK3 to GTK4. πŸ”§ GTK is Gajim's user interface toolkit. It provides building blocks, like windows, buttons and labels. 🧩

Version 4 of this toolkit brings performance improvements to Gajim, e.g. faster rendering of user interface elements. πŸ’¨
Additionally, switching to GTK4 allows Gajim to use newer widgets, like nice drop downs.
Here is a quick peek at a new group chat "@ mention" widget. 😎

Stay tuned! :xmpp:

will the GTK4 migration fix the endless issues like lagging or freezing with large messages, refusing to connect for no reason, taking ages to synchronize all chat history at once on startup (and lagging my entire system in the process), not having working calls, using an outdated version of the OMEMO spec and numerous other UX problems it has?

@telepath no, none of these. Feel free to join gajim@conference.gajim.org?join if you have questions or suggestions.

Are you migrating to widgets that respond to the GTK light/dark mode signal?
in reply to Diane

@alienghic Gajim does that already in GTK3 through DBus. If it does not work for you, feel free to join gajim@conference.gajim.org?join

Gajim
@erua exactly. This is an announcement, not a release. A release has not been mentioned anywhere.
