If you want to get a sense of what the Matrix network will be like once Matrix 2.0 is fully rolled out, get yourself ElementX, and try it with an account on the matrix.org homeserver. I haven't had a chance to really stress test it yet. But from what I've experienced so far, it's a *huge* improvement on Matrix 1.0.

EDIT 2: ElementX is the Matrix 2.0 version of Element. Despite the fact that it remains significantly incomplete, and may not meet all your needs 🤦‍♂️

This works with Windows XPthrough 11, and I'm logged into it as I write! It's called Escargot, and it revives Windows Live/MSN Messenger. This is the original software, but it has been patched so that it connects to the escargot.chat server and not the Microsoft one. It is 100% free and accessible with NVDA and I'm sure JAWS as well. They also have projects for AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) and ICQ, including for Android and IOS, and are working on a web client for MSN. (I don't know if AIM or ICQ are accessible with screen readers, as I have never tried them). Wobei ich denke, dass das kein einfaches Unterfangen ist. Aber vielleicht findet sich ja doch jemand, der an einer Konzeption für solch eine Übersicht arbeiten würde?

Als erstes müsste man vielleicht die #Accessibiliy Issues zu den verschiedenen Messengern sammeln, bzw. erstmal welche aufmachen...

#ElementX nutze ich schon länger parallel zu #Element für meine Chats.

Nun habe ich aber das neue #SchildiChat Next ausprobiert.

Es basiert auch auf ElementX, hat aber #Spaces integriert. Das gefällt mir sehr gut. Damit lassen sich z.B. Chaträume übersichtlich ordnen.

#Matrix ist für mich nach wie vor ne gute Sache. Ich würde es auch WhatsApp-Wechslern eher empfehlen als #Signal ... vor allem auch, weil man sich damit nicht vom Smartphone abhängig macht.

synapse seemingly has the pro in terms of support for tools such as synapse admin: github.com/Awesome-Technologie…
and the ability to use oauth and handle user management using solutions such as authentik.

while conduit seems to be more resource efficient and better in terms of speed?

Finally have my Prosody server all compliant!

I had an epiphany last night about something in the nginx config and after sorting that, all the optional XEP listed also pass!

Now to convince wife and kids to use it for our group chat... they really don't want to install any more apps, because I'm "being difficult" because they already use whatsapp 😑

The main reason I'm impressed with it over matrix, is reliable notifications. It just works. So far, anyway.

Thank you to the people that replied to my post last week suggesting I try xmpp after the matrix server we used shut down. I had written it off as an old platform for nerds, but it's... actually really good ❤️

I recently developed a thing to turn a Conversations chat* into a PDF.

That story began with a friend of mine that had got a XMPP group chat where they shared updates and pictures of their latest travel adventure. Now chat is rather ephemeral and they wanted to preserve those memories in an easy accessible format that is PDF. And so I put something together.

* actually any chat as long as you can get the raw data in the expected format
