Per the recommendation of one of the listeners to the podcast where I regularly co-host, I have bought the Anker Prime 27650 mah powerbank. Pretty nifty: it has a Bluetooth LE module and by pairing it with the dedicated app, you can read useful info from it like the current charge percentage, how much time is left until full charge, how much voltage goes on each port etc. As a bonus, it can be triggered to make a sound so that you can find it easier and, by extension, any backpack, bag or other container you left it in. Pretty great for any #Blind person looking for the next useful gadget to add to their tech backpack. #Accessibility #A11y

At $250 on Canadian Amazon, that is insanely expensive compared to my $130 26000 MAh thing from Ugreen, which does none of those things but does have a percentage readout that Seeing AI can sort of read.

@simon Oops, that seems hefty. I believe this is cheaper in Europe. I have paid 140 euro.
in reply to Paweł Masarczyk

Oh yeah, that's definitely cheaper by a bit. Still a bit over $200 CAD, but it's a better price for sure.
in reply to simon.old

@simon I'm surprised battery percentage reporting for powerbanks over USB-C isn't a thing yet.
in reply to Paweł Masarczyk

Given this thing has audible alerts, if it can announce the battery percentage independent of the app, then this may give Energrid a run for its money.

@jackf723 Sadly not but I suppose technically it could be added with an update or something. Whether Anker ever does that...
in reply to Paweł Masarczyk

As long as the firmware is upgradeable, it could happen. But yes, it's a matter of their willingness, or lack thereof, to do it.

@miki Oh nice! Do you know whether that's the only accessible power bank available from Anker? I have been looking for something that'll let me determine the battery charge level.
in reply to Leo

@Lprazdnik @miki There's a smaller and cheaper 20000 mah variant. They also released something new at the IFA last week or two weeks ago but I haven't read too much into it yet. The app claims only the Prime lineup is compatible.

Wow, this is really cool. Off to check it out. How big is the power bank? 27650 MAH sounds like a lot of juice!

@vick21 It's one of those things you'd rather keep in your backpack rather than aa trousers pocket but it's still portable, albeit rather long and heavy.

@menelion In the European store, I have gotten it for 140 euro. It retails for 164 by default but there is a back-to-school sale going on which you opt into by clicking a link at the top and you can knock another 10% off by signing up for their newsletter with whatever email and redeeming the voucher so it goes down.

Yeah, this is a pretty incredible battery pack, I got one for my trip to the US and it was brilliant

@sofquipeut That's true. Should have indicated that in my post. Hopefully there will be some discounts either for Black Friday, Cyber Monday or Christmas.

It's an interesting product though. I'll add it to my wishlist! I was hoping it was cheaper than the accessible Energrid power bank. :)
in reply to Paweł Masarczyk

@oxytude lol well said man! I've just proposed your idea for our traditional Christmas episode, "accessible Christmas gifts! :)

@kaveinthran Is the 27000 model really $200 wow also, 27000 MAH may not be allowed on an airplane? Wonder if the lesser prime models also have bluetooth?
