Whether or not the Conservatives supported the #FreedomConvoy ideologically (and this recent discovery of Conservative MP Andrew Lawton’s participation in a secret Telegram chat with the organizers certainly suggests at least some of them did), the Party chose to use the illegal occupation of Ottawa and the subsequent terrorisation of its citizens as a political opportunity to undermine Trudeau and the government.

We can’t let the #FreedomConvoy or the Conservative Party’s complicity in it get memory-holed—it needs to be shouted from the rooftops.

Prior to becoming interim leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, MP Candice Bergen was among the more vocal members of caucus to push former leader Erin O’Toole into an explicit embrace of the so-called freedom convoy that’s now occupying Ottawa.
CTV quoted Bergen echoing, almost verbatim, former U.S. president Donald Trump’s description of the 2017 Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville, Va., which ended violently, as having “good people on both sides.”
