I have a question for photographers today, more for digital than film.
How do you feel about camera technology over the past decade? It feels to me they're making cameras better and better for video, but are they advancing features for still photography at the same rate?
What new developments in camera tech have been your favourite when it comes to still photography?
A lot have plateaued. The big change is the phasing out of SLR from the two lasting major vendor: Canon and Nikon. But it seems that about 24MPix-ish (my 5D MkII do that) is pretty much standard for full frame or APS-C with the more (40-ish) high-end having more.
Indeed the hybrid photo / video has been probably the biggest evolution. But it's gonna plateau soon.

Does anyone know of a way to emulate Enter from a Focus 40 Blue display in NVDA? If Dot 8 is supposed to do it (I’m not even sure about that), it doesn’t work here with NVDA 2025.3. Strange that something this basic isn’t documented in NVDA’s training material or user guide. @NVAccess
How basic and commonly needed a feature it is is probably up for debate (This is the first time in 8 years Basic Training has existed I have seen a complaint that this feature isn't in it - Input Gestures are mentioned though not covered in great detail) - but since you've raised it, I've added it to my list to look at next update!
Thanks, but in the list of 11 emulated system keyboard keys or functions available, there's no mention of emulating the Enter key. Moreover - and even if this work-around eventually operates, I do think the Enter key or function should, by default, have a Braille key stroke equivalent on Braille displays such as the Focus 40 Blue.
No there isn't an existing emulated input gesture for enter, or for shift+f7, or for "d" - but you can add any of those if you have a need.
As for whether it should be there already, I believe we go off the manufacturer's documentation for the unit - but feel free to create an issue if it should be there and we've missed it: github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issue…
Well, what to say? You gain access to a $3500 Braille display, only to find out that it can't press the Enter key by default using your screen reader of choice, and the suggested work-around may or may not work. If this is what the manufacturer has specified, let's RIP that manufacturer. In cases like this, NVAccess should add the most basic functions or emulations IMO.
What do you mean the workaround may or may not work? The steps in that post SHOULD work - if they don't, that is definitely a bug and please let us know.
As for whether NVDA should have a default emulation setup, again, we'll accept a GitHub issue for that. I don't even know whether we wrote the original code or if the manufacturer submitted it. I just had a look through the user guide, and around 2/3 had a way of pressing ENTER, so it's definitely a valid request
I should see my friend who owns this Focus 40 Blue to test the suggested work-around as that person isn't an advanced user to risk going through adding the emulation. Another issue is that if the Braille output is set to Persian Grade 1, in MS Word 2021/2019/ 2024 NVDA adds extra 8 dots to all cells when English text appears on the screen. JAWS doesn't have these issues. I guess I should borrow the Focus 40 Blue to file a few Braille issues more reliably.
Anyone else (Sysadmins, Developers etc) find they have a difficult time thinking about what exactly should be automated? Is putting in a medium to large amount of time to automate something really small actually worth it? I find it difficult to visualise this sometimes.

I am curious as to weather clients are meant to do something with this. I have listed some examples below. Is this just something people are meant to know or is it something that clients are meant to do something with?:

those are custom emoji. We have a few like The parts in between the colons is the shortcode, or the name of the emoji. clients then usually render it with whatever image is associated with the emoji. For the ones we have, the descriptions are on our about page. As for custom remote emoji, we've been asking for alt text for them forever, but we're not getting it it seems.
One thing I do not enjoy about having #ADHD is when someone proposes a very sensible solution to a problem I am having and I have to explain that unfortunately, there is no way in hell I will be doing that, because my brain won’t let me.

I find myself idly wondering if software installers should have some knowledge of the weak or default passwords of the Unix world, so if you're trying to open an attack surface the absolute lowest of the low-hanging fruit has to get clean out first. "It looks like this computer's root password is a widely used default, so sshd will not start. Please secure your root account or add "--0wn-m3" to the command line to continue.
the openSUSE installer runs cracklib-dict when it asks you for the root password to set up. You can still tell it to use whatever crappy password you chose, but at least it warns you...
