If you're looking for something new to do this year, I just posted the last edition of the audiogames.net monthly digest. I haven't posted about these here in a while though I probably really should, because there's a lot happening. This most recent one covers all blind friendly game releases I heard about both on the audiogames.net forum and off throughout December and even into the new year and boy there was a lot to cover. A lot of games got modded to be accessible, including both entries in the hand of fate series as well as the Phoenix Wright trilogy and that's just the tip of the iceberg. There's also rhythm games, some christmas vibes, a bunch of games for iOS and so much more. forum.audiogames.net/post/9424…

Happy New Year - Gelukkig Nieuwjaar - Einen Guten Rutsch - Bonne Année - Sǎn Bɛ Sǎn Bɛ - Mwaka mwerú mwega!
"One whose seeds have not sprouted, does not give up planting!"
This is a Kikuyu proverb about perseverance, resilience,, and not giving up on future potential despite a lack of noticeable results so far. This felt like a good New Year's motivation to post. Basically, you've got this!

I was just thinking about the old days of Google since it came up, and I realized something. My favorite era of Google, around 2010 or so, was a lot like the Fediverse. On my homepage I got important news, a preview of my emails that I could expand if I needed to and the weather. I'd get jokes of the day, and then I'd get random stuff like articles on the history of cheese or the world's oldest forest. It was a very peaceful routine I had every morning, like reading a newspaper but more fun.

So that's 2025. Honestly when the year started I didn't feel great about what was to come, and I feel like this year's been harder than most, but I'm Beyond grateful to all the friends I made along the way who helped me get through it. I sometimes think to myself "do I really have anymore room for new people in my life?" And somehow, the answer is always yes.

Particular shoutouts go to @bscross32 @McOi @JessicatheVIArtist and @jonathan859. I also of course am legally required to mention @gallagher123123, we've known each other for so long we're practically brothers at this point. I love you all, and thanks for everything. Here's to a great 2026!

I want to use the last day of the year to thank the community here on Mastodon.

Every day, I learn things here that are worth learning. The discussions are, by Internet standards, very polite and focused on the issues.

But most importantly, I see people here having a voice that they do not have in traditional media or in algorithm-driven social media.

That makes Mastodon extremely valuable, and we should all strive to preserve that.

The year 2025 has been a tough one, and I have little optimism that 2026 will be easier. We will likely see a further rise in authoritarianism, fascism, and racism.

To stem the tide, we must work together. My wish for the coming year is that we continue to see others fighting the same fight as allies, even if they have different priorities for where they invest their energy.

But please take care of yourselves. Do not feel guilty about time spent on self-maintenance. Keep this in mind: You can only help others if you are first in a position to do so.

Best wishes from Kiel, Martin

P.S. Special thanks to @jerry for maintaining this instance. I really feel "at home" here.

Wow, that silence when they finally burned all their money...
Well I remember the moment from last year as it was yesterday. I know I ate chocolate back then, posting on a german masto account that no longer exists. I repeat myself, it's weird, the year feels empty even though it's been so significant for my life, I mean I finished school, started an apprenticeship... Well you know the story I guess. Let's get some sweets and enjoy the rest of the night.

After recording 20 minutes of fireworks with my Zoom H1 Essentials, I'm now here to wish everyone a blessed 2026. 2025, in my case, was sort of a transitioning year, I've talked about it before, but mainly things have changed. I think with gods plan and blessings, 26 will be a good one, certainly better than 25. Happy new year from germany everyone, thanks for sticking around and keeping up with me lol.

YouTube demonetized Patrick Boyle's video on the Epstein Files. Which effectively hides it over there.

I'm doing my part to ensure his hard work doesn't go to waste.

Watch his video and reshare.

Santa Claus:
- Hides away from society
- Only goes out once a year for his job
- Avoids interactions by working the night shift
- Has exactly one outfit that he wears
- Unusual sense of style
- Talks to animals
- REALLY like making lists and going over them
- Has an intense special interest in toymaking
- Restricted diet (only eats sweets and baked goods)

What I'm trying to say is Santa is autistic.

It's interesting (in a completely non-judgmental way) to see from all these end of year posts how many books different people read in a year.

I'm someone who feels a bit lost without a good book on the go, and I usually read at least two (and sometimes up to six) books each week. Some people would undoubtedly consider that too many, but I unashamedly read for pleasure and entertainment rather than analysing and reflecting on each title in detail.

That does mean that books have great reread value for me, but also that in certain weeks I read more titles than some people do in a year. I work full time, but watch very little television and movies and don't play a lot of video games.

I take in a lot of Mastodon posts, tech-focused videos, tech-focused articles, and the like. From comments made by all these people, I sometimes think I'm the only person who doesn't miss wired headphones for my smartphone. I switched to bluetooth headphones many years ago and have loved them. No cable to get tangled with a cane or leash, no juggling my phone and a cable when working out, no cable snagging on a branch or door handle. I love bluetooth headphones!

tip of the day: If you're looking for an assistive technology specialist at an institution for the blind, I don't hink it's a very good idea to have a driver's license as a requirement to be considered for the role. By enforcing such a requirement, you're essentially cutting off the people who would be the most capable of performing that particular job. Naturally, I will not be mentioning the name of the organization with this lackluster requirement.

> On August 5, 2025, Stein-Erik Soelberg (“Mr. Soelberg”) killed his mother and then stabbed himself to death. During the months prior, Mr. Soelberg spent hundreds of hours in conversations with OpenAI’s chatbot product, ChatGPT. During those conversations ChatGPT repeatedly told Mr. Soelberg that his family was surveilling him and directly encouraged a tragic end to his and his mother’s lives.

it's amazing, we've replaced the FBI with a machine that can push mentally ill people into violence. We no longer need to spend agent time radicalizing people into building bombs, buying weapons, etc.

Thank you OpenAI for helping us keep the government small

Thank you 2025

Here I mention everything and everyone I am grateful to in 2025. Of course you too.
I am always and eternally grateful to you. That’s why I mentioned you on the exhibition flyer and now also on the blog article.
