Google has signed a contract with Israel to supply Tech support used in the Palestinian genocide. A US$1.2 billion deal, with Amazon in the mix.
It's not the first time Google has been implicated in this type of crime.

Google obeys the every command of Trump-musk fascism, the Gulf of Mexico is just the one example that makes you laugh.

So when you have google main sponsor of FOSDEM and debian going dancing to GSoC, and many others in the FLOSS and Open movement doing the same,
I say to you straight out:
You're embracing fascism, you're legitimizing genocide, you're part of the problem!

I tried Element X Android for #Matrix once again after talking about it at #FOSDEM. It feels nice because the room synchronization is so much faster than with Element. I guess I could use it even without supporting threaded replies or URL previews for links. Absolutely do not care about voice calls. But without Spaces to explore and organize rooms, something seems to be missing. I also miss some settings, like seeing other active sessions. Overall still unsure if I want to make the switch.

The ecosystem is moving ... away from corporate centralization and mindsets.
Billionaires are out, federated and multi-player systems are in, if we gather the many chats, gossips and happenings around #fosdem correctly. Dispersing ourselves around Bruxelles the last couple of days was very enjoyable (thanks Sun!) and helpful to orient in convivial directions in this otherwise extraordinarily stupid 2025 timeline ... thanks to the many people we enjoyed conversations and hang outs with! ❤️

I also want to acknowledge the issues of #fosdem. I tried to do my part to keep the people I talked to safe, by getting booster COVID and flu vaccines ahead of the event (with enough time for them to be effective) and by masking when I was inside, but this kind of things should be the result of event rules and guidelines, not personal initiatives.

Finally home after #fosdem, and it feels wrong thinking I've only been away for a weekend (it felt so much longer!).

I've loved hanging around the @thunderbird stand and talking to people about what Thunderbird means to them and what we could do to make things even better for them.

Also meeting a bunch of old friends, and making new ones. Everyone I've talked to over the weekend has been absolutely amazing.

Very honest analysis from the #matrix presentation at #fosdem.
Chasing shiny things is fun, but it doesn't help mainstream adoption or core development.
Lots of amazing experimental projects to grab attention/funding and demo Matrix’s potential and inspire people to build on it: o P2P Matrix! Low bandwidth! Hydrogen! Dendrite! Gitter! o 3D calling! Matrix VR Demo! CRDTs! Element Drive! Applications Beyond Chat! But all this inspirational work stole energy from writing a Killer app.

And it’s a wrap for my first (EPIC) day at #FOSDEM.

It’s hard to put into words how incredible - and energizing - it feels to be around the creators of the #ActivityPub protocol, founders of #Fediverse software, admins of popular instances and developers of tools I use every day.

I took the opportunity to thank them in person for their incredible work 😊

It’s also been amazing to finally meet IRL lots of cool people I had been corresponding with for months on the Fediverse.
