Open source is what we need more of. For all essential functions. Access to the Internet, social media and more.

I'm happy to report all the torrents appear to be working this time (well, I didn't check Apple Intel, Linux RPM or non-64-bit Windows).
in reply to Yusuf

@yusuff The LibreOffice 7.6 branch reached end-of-life (EOL) a few months ago, so you're strongly recommended to upgrade to a maintained branch 😊
in reply to LibreOffice

@yusuff Can one run both versions on the same system?

I have upgrade anxiety

in reply to LibreOffice

happy to see ai assistants and a locked cloud service were not part of your new features 😀
in reply to LibreOffice

Fantastic work. Thank you! I've been using LibreOffice for a quite a while now!

When people ask me to help with their 'outdated Microsoft office' I always replace it with LibreOffice.

@the5thColumnist Yes, the 24.2 branch will be maintained for a bit longer, and we will wait for 24.8 to receive one or two point (bugfix) releases before rolling out the update checker notification to all users.

@el_haych2024
I just went to the Libre Office download page and downloade the most recent update. it's just the notice within the software that was not updated.
in reply to el_haych2024

@el_haych2024 @the5thColumnist The update checker brings many millions of people to the new version, so we're always a bit careful and wait for a minor update (eg LibreOffice 24.8.1) before getting everyone to upgrade 😉

@Ann_Effes Hi! Not sure what you mean by "first safe". And for "boot time", do you mean startup time? You can see a list of fixed bugs in the links at the end of the announcement. If you install LibreOffice 24.8 and still have a problem you can report it to our QA community at bugs.documentfoundation.org/ – Thanks! 😊
in reply to LibreOffice

First safe: You create a document and want to safe it or the first time. That causes LibreOffice (on my machines) to beachball for up to 2 minutes. Saving changes to existing files work fine. This problem is existing since the last 3-4 versions or so.

Boot time: Yes, startup time. Time untill you can actually start to write is quote long with up 40 seconds.

This problem exists like forever. I do not consider it as a bug - still: even MSWD is way faster.

@Ann_Effes That definitely shouldn't happen. LibreOffice isn't perfect, but it certainly shouldn't hang for two minutes when saving files. What operating system are you running, and what's the specification of your machine? Does the same problem occur in Safe Mode? help.libreoffice.org/latest/en…
in reply to LibreOffice

In Safe Mode it does not save at all. If I hit cmd+S I get about 20 seconds beachball and then NOTHING - no safe dialog, Libre Office acts as nothing had happened.

Interesting_ I can not even save a file in Safe Mode... LOL

Currently running still macOS 10.15 Intel on my main work machine, but had the same effect on other macOS machines.

@Ann_Effes There's something clearly wrong, as we do a lot of testing on macOS and don't have those problems. Good to hear the latest update appears to have fixed it, though! 😊
in reply to LibreOffice

Just installed LO 24.8 on my (secondary) Sonoma Intel, and there the problem does not exist anymore.

So I will indeed update and check... maybe it IS gone with the new version.

Yeah! Just installed 24.8 right over my 24.2.5 on my primary work machine and the problem is indeed fixed.

Cool!

Nice, I use XLOOKUP on Excel a lot, so that's something I miss when I use LibreOffice. Much easier than VLOOKUP.
in reply to LibreOffice

But it prevents again the home window to be maximized on PCs with a (W)XGA screen (768p), unless I open a file first and go back to the home afterwards.

It was fixed in 24.2, what can I do (other than waiting for 25.2, or set my XFCE panels to auto-hide) to avoid that? Can I hide this big “LibreOffice Community” logo (in the advanced settings editor, perhaps?)?
