There's a really disturbing #Paypal #phishing scam happening right now. Obviously this reads like a typical phishing attempt (bad grammar, a malformed phone number to call, etc), but the official Paypal email wasn't spoofed. It came from PayPal's email infrastructure.

Examining the headers shows that SPF, DKIM, and DMARC all pass. If you have a Paypal account, please exercise caution. Don't click links in these emails. Forward them to phishing@paypal.com.

Please boost for visibility.

Someone here suggested WERO, we read about it and have just activated it in our bank. It was very simple and took 2 or 3 clicks.

An all-in-one digital wallet solution:

Wero is a new European payment system designed to modernize the way we handle transactions across the continent. Launched in 2024, it aims to unify various national payment solutions into a single platform.

Wero is the brainchild of the European Payments Initiative (EPI), a consortium of 16 European banks. The initiative was born out of a need to create a sovereign and unified payment solution for Europe, reducing dependence on non-European payment systems like Visa & Mastercard.

With Wero, sending money to friends and family will be much easier because it allows you to send and receive $$ instantly using just an email address, phone number, or QR code. No more IBANS, 3 days of waiting to receive ๐Ÿ’ธ etc.

It's also a good alternative for Paypal ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ and it is designed to replace several national payment solutions, including Giropay ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช, Paylib ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท, Payconiq ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡บ and iDEAL ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ which not always work cross-borders.

The roadmap is full of features to be implemented like online and in-store payment.

For the moment, it's available only in Germany, France and Belgium.

#PSA #PayPal is changing their privacy statement/terms of service starting November so that they can sell your information to merchants.

You CAN opt out, but you have to do it before they start:

Settings > Data & Privacy > Manage shared info > Personalized shopping, and toggle that shit off

ETA: this is probably country specific, due to differing privacy laws.

You can try privacy>settings>recommendations

Check replies, people have found the same toggle under a different header.

Not only does Elon Musk not have a clue what heโ€™s talking about, but this is *exactly* what he tried to do at PayPal, claiming it needed a full โ€œV2โ€ rewrite of the code when it didnโ€™t.

Instead, it shifted resources away from key areas, caused PayPal to lose much more money to fraud, and eventually got him ousted as CEO.

Last month, I wrote about Elon Muskโ€™s time at PayPal and how heโ€™s repeating his mistakes from that period: disconnect.blog/p/elon-musk-waโ€ฆ
