So development is picking up again, with the impending release of #TheBadSpace and then back to #Fipamo so I can FINALLY work to get it out of beta.
All in all, I'm excited about the direction in both of those projects because one will be a big step forward for safety in the fedi, and the other is going to be a fresh idea on how we can leverage this space for a different kind of experience. Personally, I'm pumped about the thought of exploring new ways to engage, and it's going to be fun trying and seeing what works.
I've been fortunate to have a community of supporters that have contributed to keeping the development of these projects running. If you've been following me for a while, you know a goal of mine is to be able to do this full work time, spending my days building better tools and, LOL, fussing with everyone about the details. That would be a thin slice of fried gold for me.
For now, my primary funding source is Patreon, which has been keeping the lights on for my projects for a couple of years. It's the easiest way to pitch in a couple of bucks a month, enabling me to spend more time working, with the idea it will gain enough support to allow me to work full-time.

Before users can access the chat feature, they must fill out a short questionnaire. This questionnaire requires the user to solve a captcha. So it is essential that all end users are able to solve the captcha in order to receive help. Simply arrowing to the 'I'm not a robot' checkbox and checking the box does not reveal the visual or audio challenge to a screen reader user. To solve this captcha, one must tab to it instead. You may need to tab past the submit button a few times in order to locate the captcha challenge dialogue. I tested the audio captcha for this site using Windows, Firefox and Chrome. I hope this helps anyone who may be looking for help with anxiety, depression, or a mental health crisis. @miki Hypothetically speaking, let's say someone used a VPN to access this service. The goal of crisis chat, or one of them, is to direct people to services in their area. A US crisis counselor wouldn't have resources in other countries, obviously. That could lead to an international user feeling underserved. A VPN would potentially relieve a counselor of liability issues, since there would be no proof that the user is in another country. But someone who is deep in crisis may not even have the tech skills to use a VPN. I lost my ability to use tech during my manic episode due to sleep deprivation, for example. I couldn't use my computer and resorted mainly to using voice control on my mobile devices. All that to say, using a VPN does come with challenges in cases like this. So I hesitate to recommend a service like this to international users. Because everyone's case is different.

Back when I hosted my own site, I used math captchas, but some bots got past those. So I had to implement tighter spam blocking measures. *makes a mental note to research captchas for deaf-blind users*
