Gaming for the blind

OK. I am really confused... I want to get into gaming some. And being blind, I obviously need games I can play. The question is which equipment should I get. I do have a decent sized PC, an AMD Ryzen 9 3900GHz, 32 GB, 1 TB SSD, but the graphics card is a bit under-dimensioned, a GeForce GT-1650 super, or something. I am thinking of upgrading to this one: mindfactory.de/product_info.ph…

However, considering that the upcoming Forza Motor Sports is an Xbox game, should I even bother upgrading my Windows PC and make it gaming-capable? Is the PC a compelling gaming platform for us? Note that due to the theme, The Last Of Us Part I is probably not really my cup of tea, even though it is accessible. Any advice from experienced blind gamers is appreciated.

Gaming for the blind

Not strictly hardware focused, but if you're looking for game recommendations then there's been a few games that launched in the last two or three years that might be perfect for those with limited or no vision.

Blind Drive - A game where you have to navigate a car through a high speed car chase using nothing but audio clues.

The Vale - Not played this one myself but it's got a 9/10 rating on steam and seems pretty alright.

That should do fine. I love gaming on PC! I have done it that way for many years. I have no idea how well it will run Forza (since it is not out yet) but those look like good enough specs for it to run decently. Strongly prefer it over consoles as you are not then tied into the lock-in/upgrade model of needing a new gaming machine every 5 years or so. I already upgrade my PC about as much so I find the consoles to be redundant.

"It is strange and striking that climate change activists have not committed any acts of terrorism. After all, terrorism is for the individual by far the modern world’s most effective form of political action, and climate change is an issue about which people feel just as strongly about as, say, animal rights. This is especially noticeable when you bear in mind the ease of things like blowing up petrol stations, or vandalising SUVs. In cities, SUVs are loathed by everyone except the people who drive them; and in a city the size of London, a few dozen people could in a short space of time make the ownership of these cars effectively impossible, just by running keys down the side of them, at a cost to the owner of several thousand pounds a time. Say fifty people vandalizing four cars each and every night for a month: six thousand trashed SUVs in a month and [they] would soon be disappearing from our streets. So why don’t these things happen? Is it because the people who feel strongly about climate change are simply too nice, too educated, to do anything of the sort? (But terrorists are often highly educated.) Or is it that even the people who feel most strongly about climate change, on some level, can’t quite bring themselves to believe in it?"

This is a fascinating read. As a recent lover of game shows, i have heard a lot about Barbara Lowe. Looks like a lot of it was not true, very sad. I personally think Jeopardy should invite her back if she would be interested. theringer.com/tv/2023/5/2/2370…

FYI
Pagebreak UI bug in vaersion 7.4 / 7.5?

I set document and application background to black (and text in green) for ease on my eyes, and a manual page break indicator looks like it should up to 7.0.4 which I use now (see screenshot).

When I upgraded to 7.4.5 (Devuan backports) and also tried 7.5 via flatpak, I noticed the small gap between the pages was no longer black around the dotted page break line but seemingly the standard application colour.

Very distracting for me.
