Probably going to be streaming again today. Most likely the PMDG tripple 7. I have never flown this particular aircraft before, and I will absolutely fly it like the 737. I also know that accessibility is a WIP, so there are some things I simmply cannot do.

@rooktallon You can fly without it, so long as you can check your sid/star waypoints and program them yourself. Not ideal but can be done.

@drew Out of interest, do you know if there is a deliberate a reason WhatsApp UWP has the emoji and add attachment buttons between the message list and the input box? That makes it less efficient to get between the two, which is a pretty regular thing. I can easily work around this with the WhatsAppPlus NVDA add-on, but I always prefer things to be better out of the box, so thought I'd ask. Could those buttons be positioned after the input box instead?

In general, how big a priority would you put on having fewer tabs to get you to where you want to go? This is a place where WCAG falls down a bit IMO because it emphasizes following the visual order, which can clutter things up.

Happy thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends. We aren't big on Turky, so dinner tonight will be a boneless leg of lamb done on the smoker, mashed potatoes and stuffing.

i grew up surrounded by people who read books by self-help and project-management gurus, from teachers to relatives. Iโ€™m critical of much of the overcomplicated advice that gets published by them. one of the only self-help or project-management mantras i sincerely believe in is SMART goals.

Any time I make a goal that I havenโ€™t made sure is specific, measurable, attainable/realistic, for which Iโ€™m responsible by a given time, I fail. Silly acronyms that spell out relevant words are supposed to be bullshit but this is somehow the ultimate exception.

โ€œwork out more oftenโ€ fails. โ€œtry this light five-day exercise regiment, fitting it into your schedule on these days, and write down what was too easy to ramp up next weekโ€ works.

โ€œclean the house regularlyโ€ fails. โ€œclean the counter until itโ€™s smooth, at this time tomorrow, within 15 minutes, and reward myself with some blueberries if i finish in time before moving onto the next cleaning taskโ€ works.

With ADHD itโ€™s impossible for me to be productive at something without obsessively SMART-ing my way through it. Iโ€™ve tried everything and this is the only thing thatโ€™s stuck. Iโ€™m amazed that such a silly corpo acronym for increasing team productivity is actually 100% legit.

seriously. SMART covers all the ways I wriggle out of tasks.

  • โ€œwhere do i beginโ€: specific.
  • โ€œwill I ever be have done enoughโ€: measurable.
  • โ€œitโ€™s too overwhelmingโ€: attainable.
  • โ€œsomeone else can do itโ€: responsible individual.
  • โ€œeh, laterโ€: time-bound.
  • โ€œI donโ€™t feel like itโ€: I went through the trouble of making a SMART goal, making a five step promise to myself to do something. I donโ€™t want that effort to go to waste.

Thatโ€™s basically it. All the ways I avoid something taken care of by one comically simple acronym.

adhd brains are an absolute joke. for real. like, the only thing I did today was to attach a time to the tasks. not just the day, no, a specific time and an estimated guess how long itโ€™s going to take.

and that alone tremendously helped. omg.

Just got around to playing with the now working iPhone mirroring app in macOS 15, not too bad. Although, I wish it would not keep repeating iPhone mirroring when navigating.r

Hmmm, how did you get iPhone Mirroring to work? Is it 15.1 you are seeing this on? The best I can get out of this combo with 15.0 is the โ€œhomeโ€ and โ€œapp launcherโ€ buttons, but this only after relaunching VoiceOver.

Sometimes I wish there was a way to either turn off user names altogether or put them at the end of the posts. This may be e a screen reader thing, but it gets overwhelming to my ears when one or two people take over my timeline. No personal feelings, BTW!

Yes it does, YOu have three options, name, username, or name and username. So just set it to name and you wonโ€™t hear the username.

When JD Vance says, "My wife has three children" โ€“ he does not refer to his wife by her name (Usha). He also does not refer to any of his 3 children by name (Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel). And most importantly (red lights flashing, sirens blaring) โ€“ he doesn't acknowledge himself as his daughter's/sons' father (i.e., "Usha and I have three children"). Is there a reason I shouldnโ€™t buy a framework laptop to replace this Dell garbage?

I feel like itโ€™s the year 2001 when I resisted getting a mobile phone until I really needed it. Now Iโ€™m resisting Meta glasses. Not sure why. Maybe itโ€™s the cost โ€ฆ I really need a laptop too, but it may also be because itโ€™s โ€œwhat everybodyโ€™s doingโ€ in my little community. For now, I resisted instant next day arrival, and my wife and Iโ€™ll be old geezer standouts for awhile at least. We are ok being classed as geezerz though.

@jscholes @amy0223 With third-party support on the way IE, Be My Eyes etc, they will trounce Envision glasses for portability in short-order. If they allow one third-party app, others will surely follow.

@FreakyFwoof @jscholes @amy0223 Yeah we're going in the right direction IMHO with mainstream equipment with third-party app support, rather than using specific hardware like Envision and Orcam have done in the past. I'm still not a huge convert at the moment, but I don't need to record video right now. I'm still wanting to do more OCR reading with these glasses, which I don't believe is an option right now.

@andrew @FreakyFwoof @jscholes I donโ€™t have the need for any kind of smart glasses right now and weโ€™re trying to save money and all. But if I were buying, even with any downsides Iโ€™ll take a mainstream option over a for the blind product. I just donโ€™t trust these niche products that are so highly priced to stay around. And when envision ends up like Orcam itโ€™ll be a mess.

@amy0223 @andrew @jscholes What you said. I've tried to go mainstream with products I've purchased as much as humanly possible. Orbit Reader is an exception for obvious reason. In 1994, my dad gave me a Franklin Language Master which just *happened* to have TTs, so even that I guess is an off-the-shelf product. Loved that thing.

@FreakyFwoof @amy0223 @andrew @jscholes That Language Master, which was called the Language Master 6000 Special Edition, was amazing. Everything on it was accessible and it even came with an excellent instruction tape. Several years ago, I bought a used one so I could continue to play with it. I always hoped that Franklin would have released an accessible encyclopedia but I don't think they ever did.
