Took a tumble on the road today, swerving to avoid an ebike delivery guy that cut me off. I'm fine - scraped an elbow, and I think I'm going to have a pretty good bruise on my tailbone, but I successfully avoided the guy.
I know a bunch of people who think delivery e-bikers are some sort of menace, but the truth of it is that Toronto's bike lanes are terrible. Far too narrow, people parking in them and blocking them all the time. Half a lane wide, in place where there's four lanes for cars.
With 9/11 fast approaching, I often reflect on the events of that day on each anniversary, and one of the amazing things that came out of that day was a flight that landed in Gander Newfoundland Canada where the community of Gander step forward and made sure everyone on the flight was well taken care of. A musical was made about this, though it's title escapes me, and I might try and see if I can watch it tomorrow.
I well recall that day as well. One thing I remember the most is when the station I was listening to around the time the towers collapsed, which normally played Top 40 music, quickly began playing songs like Imagine by John Lennon and Only Time by Enya. They then began simulcasting programming from their sister NewsTalk station.

I can't get the Z-Wave ZWA-2 device to pass through to a bhyve VM where I'm running Home Assistant because it only allows full PCI pass through of a device or USB controller. It does get exposed as a serial device which I can sorta pass through to byhyve, but it doesn't really work.
I was able to get a console on the HASS VM and figure out which serial device was matching com2 that I was connecting into it and I could connect from the host and pass through some ascii chars back and forth, but when HASS tried to talk to the device it kept saying there were errors talking to it. Very odd. Lights were blinking on the device though confirming communication of some sort was happening. I looked at the Z-Wave-JS code and saw it was using 115200,8n,0 essentially so that's what I used... no dice.
Someone on the FreeBSD forums suggested using a virtual null modem device inbetween and then using socat to connect to the other end of the virtual null modem cable, but that didn't work either.
However, I can configure HASS to talk to zwave-js-server running in a FreeBSD Jail as you can custom configure the websocket connection to point to anywhere instead of localhost. That did seem to work! It found the device and even did a firmware update on it. So it "works".
I need to clean up this setup because I'm literally running it as root at the moment and I'm using a git clone of their master branch 🥲
Now I just need to figure out how to ensure I can have a consistent serial device name in /dev so this doesn't break in the future.
Once that's sorted I'll have to write a blog post about it

Gosh darn it I'm really debating on whether I will regret having gone with Jet Black Watch series 10. But then again, Jet Black is more than just a visual thing, it's also very tactile with how smooth it feels and more premium. The sides of the watch feel just as the glass does. Then again, it's a fingerprint magnet. Along with micro-scratches and scuffs, which does worry me. Hmm. What a 3rd-world problem, gosh. I hate it.
I'm planning on that color for my next watch. I check r/AppleWatch every so often, and find mixed opinions. Some people hate the fingerprints and find their finish is scratched easily, while other people say theirs looks brand new and they have no problems.
@alexhall I know. That's what gets me. People are saying a mix of both! But gosh darn it it's so sleak, it feels like the screen and case are the same material, no grainier aluminum everywhere, aaaah. I keep comparing the textures of my older Space-gray watch to it and I cannot feel like I can go back from black. Oh no.
That's actually good to know. I wondered how the feel would be on such a model. The smoothness of the casing makes sense, but it's really cool that the seam between body and screen isn't present. It would be nice to have a smooth transition there.
@alexhall So revolutionary! What I find funny is, until now, I never understood why Apple used the polycarbonate, smooth shiny plastic on their older Macbooks. Like the first ones. Powerbooks too I think maybe. Now I do. At the time to me it felt like, "oh, this is too glossy, it's just being premium for premium's sake, bah who wants that." But now with the watch I find it funny that this opinion for me has changed, not sure. Very interesting. Perhaps even then they were just trying to make the computer be as glossy as the screen is.
@ppatel @alexhall ah yeah, those are titanium though I thought? Another beast entirely :) Far more durable probably. Jet Black was an aluminum-only finish introduced with the Apple Watch Series 10, not sure if they're now extending it to Ultra 3 (probably?). It doesn't really change what can scratch the aluminum itself, but because it's smooth and glossy smaller micro-scratches especially under light will be visible to sighted folks. From what I've also read though it's not as though the material types that scratch it really changes, hardness on it remains quite the same as any other s10 color type. So not sure. I got a vinyl glossy protector for it, a bumper case for a watch (for me) would turn it into a toy-feeling thing, since those had these chunky plastic bezels, so perhaps a vinyl skin works better.
