Great to be able to make @OpenForumEurope earlier this year. I couldn’t attend all the talks, so it is terrific that the videos are now available online.

Very encouraging to see so many #government leaders working with #OpenSource leaders collaborating together.

I had to learn a lot about parliamentary government when studying for Canadian citizenship so I have all the passion of the recently-converted but I think we're all getting a lesson on which is the superior* approach right now.

*Not perfect, of course. And I'm still holding my breath for the Canadian election.

The idiotic (and evidently pampered and privileged) folks who mock "public health" and governmental initiatives to prevent spread of infectious disease and assure that people get basic healthcare obviously did not live prior to the 1950s when, for the first time, parents could spare their children of the crippling disease of polio — due to government initiatives.

Me, I tend to turn a deaf ear to idiocy spouted by the pampered and privileged.

ProPublica has identified nine additional Musk-affiliated staffers. A former staffer at Boring Company now has an official role at DOGE in the Executive Office of the President. A former X employee now works in the General Services Administration.

North Dakota Sued the Interior Department at Least Five Times Under Gov. Doug Burgum. Now He’s Set to Run the Agency.

The state was hostile to Interior Department policies during the Biden administration. A review of its lawsuits under Burgum reveals an aggressively pro-fossil fuel agenda.

If you are here, are a public sector employee, and interested in #OpenSource please reach out. I'd love to bring you into a global government conversation about #FOSS use in #government.

There is frankly so much that governments can do with greater collaboration in digital teams.

Another great podcast episode from @RyanAndrosoff this time with Andres Raieste from Estonia.

This is the second podcast from this year's #FWD50 conference in Ottawa. I would definitely recommend that folks in government listen to Trust is Everything | Ep 27

I liked the line about the importance of demonstrating incremental improvements. Starting with the tax department is also interesting.

A Coast Guard Commander Miscarried. She Nearly Died After Being Denied Care.

U.S. service members have long faced strict limits on abortions, even when used to resolve miscarriages. Under federal #law, the #military will only pay for abortions in cases of rape, incest or to save the mother’s life.

Donald #Trump Controls a Publicly Traded Company. Now He Will Pick Its Regulator.

There have been internal concerns that Trump Media could be misleading investors, a source said. But with its largest shareholder about to be president, experts doubt the SEC is up to the job of investigating Truth Social’s parent company.

Happy to have a piece of this #FNN article on the #USA #government accessibility and the Accessibility chapter of the @httparchive.org's Web Almanac. #Accessibility is important to citizens & can do better in making their sites usable for everyone.

I really feel sorry for the public sector employees working on meeting this #a11y deadline for PDFs.

"PDFs are where services go to die."

No doubt the people working on this will be super under-resourced, and actually meeting this deadline won't be seen as much of a win by anyone, but not meeting it has legal and dire consequences.

To be clear more #a11y is good! Under-resourcing teams is not!

Enjoyed presenting on Day 1 of Drupal GovCon -- Data Analysis of Drupal, Government and Best Practices

TLDR: Drupal is doing better than average, based on most CrUX Core Web Vital evaluations, but we still need to do better for CX.

As a community we can work to improve these scores and improve the digital experience of .gov sites.

I am always happy see the release of the WebAIM Million and 2024 is just out.

webaim.org/projects/million/

The figure most folks want to see is the percentage of home pages that had detected WCAG 2 failures. it is marginally better than 2023 but you will have to read the report.

It is also worth noting that sub domains have been excluded from the scan. The WebAIM team decided the long-term results would be better.

I understand that this has a big impact on #government and #education sites.

I am excited to be presenting an accessibility workshop for #InnovateUS. I will be focusing on taking a role-based approach for accessibility. Subject-matter experts (SME) have their role, but too often responsibilities in government are hardened and accessibility becomes someone else's responsibility. Taking a role-based approach can fix barriers earlier in the project's lifecycle.

More details about the end of #IPv4 in state services: On 18th of December 2013 Czech #government decided that every service provided by Czech state has to be available on #IPv6 and be protected by #DNSSEC by 30th of June 2015. Yesterday a followed up action has been agreed on. On 6th of June 2032, IPv4 will be disabled on all services offered by Czech republic and they will be only available on IPv6 from that day on. Apart from that, every June starting from 2025, Czech government will get a report on how are the preparations.

Overall seems like a bold move, but I totally support it! IT sends a message, that #IPv4 is over and everybody should move to #IPv6 already. And even government - the definition of conservative and bureaucratic institution - gets it. Then why shouldn't you embrace it 😉

The Department of Justice should resume reporting on federal compliance with
Section 508 requirements. Section 508 requires DOJ to report on the federal #government’s
compliance with #Section508 every two years. However, DOJ has not issued a report since
2012. In response to bipartisan Aging Committee oversight, #DOJ recently committed to
issuing its first report in a decade.

Interesting to see government challenges trying to get involved in a community that they don't understand. #Discord & #Mastodon are obviously very different, but wondering what "Gotchas" there might be for #government sites exploring alternative #SocialMedia accounts.

As people flock from #Twitter, there will be new things watch for.
