We're getting closer to Thunderbird for Android! One of our next steps for K-9 Mail is to incorporate Thunderbird’s Autoconfig mechanism. This will dramatically improve the new account setup experience.

Here's our monthly progress report:

Hi, are you planning a support system to all the small Android mailing apps that will suffer a user drop once Thunderbird officially enters the market ? ie. FairEmail, whose developer posts an update every 2 or 3 days ?
in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

when you hit K9 == Thunderbird will you bump the version number?

Also, what is the plan for the name? WIll I continue to use K=9 Mail or will there be a transition to "Thunderbird" branding?

@BenjaminHCCarr Our plan is to move users of K-9 mail to the new app with as few taps/clicks as possible, i.e. automatically copy over the data, and make it a (hopefully) painless transition.

@chwl We'll be adding that to our 2024 roadmap. Our focus is on Android first, and then we'll start laying the groundwork for iOS.

Is there a roadmap anywhere? I'd love to know if there are plans to incorporate Thunderbird's labels or automatic filters... Gotta say I'm already loving the visual improvements in K9 from the #K9/#Thunderbird colab. 💕

@Fr_g Your reply shows that you're clueless about FOSS ecosystem, the very one that Mozilla and Thunderbird thrive on, and that they pledged to maintain.

@Fr_g Considering whether putting out of business small dev while claiming to act for the best of FOSS ecosystem is Thunderbird's issue is totally up to your appreciation

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox
Let's be clear about something: Thunderbird, which operates under the wholly-owned subsidiary of MZLA Technologies Corporation, is funded exclusively by user donations. We do not have parternships with Google or any other major corporation, and we do not receive any of those profits with Mozilla Corporation.

@Fr_g @Kalytis Gotcha, no worries! Just my job to make sure that's not misunderstood :D
