šŸ˜² OMG! #Apple released the Mail Drop feature back in 2014, and I had no idea! If you use Apple Mail app with an #iCloud account and Mail Drop enabled, it lets you attach files up to 5 GB via iCloud, even from a non iCloud #email address. It embeds links in your message, and the files are encrypted and stored for 30 days. It doesn't count against your iCloud storage, and even works for free iCloud users. I just configured @thunderbird on my Linux laptop to connect to my family iCloud calendar, and it seems to work pretty well!

The setup was a bit involved though. Any chance this might be solved by the new Account Hub in the future?

It is reported that the Home Office has ordered Apple to build a backdoor into its encrypted services so that they can get hold of content that any Apple user has upload to the cloud. Encryption keeps our private information safe and secure.

If Apple complies with this, the UK government will gain access to all iCloud data globally. The only way Apple comes out of this with any integrity is to leave the UK market. If they give in to this, every regime in the world will demand the same thing. And thatā€™s before we even get to the fact that thereā€™s no such thing as a ā€œbackdoorā€ for just so-and-so. Either there is a door or there isnā€™t and if there is, anyone who obtains the key can use it.
