Today I checked elementary OS's website, because I was curious if elementary OS 8.1 had released yet. And nothing. It turns out I just checked two hours early, because it just released right now!
It brings fractional display scaling. Finally! I have been whining about this for way too long. And now it's here. The Wayland session is now the default session, and a lot of other goodies, and as always with elementary, a huge focus on accessibility, which couldn't be a bigger deal.
Huge props to the @elementary team, and congratulations to them!

In OS 8.1, you can now directly deny access for apps to send notification bubbles in System Settings → Applications alongside other app permissions

Many notebooks and tablets now ship with displays that aren’t quite HiDPI, but are more pixel dense than traditional displays. In OS 8.1, we now support fractional display scaling in the Secure Session
For the first time we now also offer ARM64 builds for devices that boot with UEFI. This means you'll be able to run OS 8.1 on M-series Apple Silicon and devices where you can load UEFI-supporting firmware like Raspberry Pi. This version of Linux also supports certain Qualcomm and Rockchip processors, for example
In OS 8 we kept the Classic Session as default with the option to try a Secure Session. Since then we’ve released updates fixing issues, app developers have updated, and hardware makers have fixed issues in their drivers. The Secure Session now provides a better experience for most people and supports a broader range of modern hardware

OK #Blind #Linux people, is it really worthwhile to consider dual booting @elementary or at least testing it out in a VM? I’m probably not going to be able to give up windows completely, correct? What can I do natively under Lennox and what can’t I do? How is word processing, spreadsheets, making presentations? How about editing music notation? what works, what doesn’t, and what am I going to be giving up in terms of time and efficiency? Years ago elementary was approached by Canonical to become an official Ubuntu flavor. “All” we had to do was offer Snap out of the box. We debated it—being able to offload some additional infrastructure concerns was attractive—but we realized it helped Canonical more than it helped us, and we had chosen Flatpak for all of its benefits as covered here:
