Q: What’s the difference between Chai: The Gay Kibbutz, Chai: Simcha Gay, and Chai: Ahavah Gay?

A: There are two primary differences between our instances — software and federation.

The Kibbutz runs Akkoma, Simcha Gay is Sharkey, and Ahavah Gay is Mastodon.

With regards to federation, both The Kibbutz and Simcha Gay federate with the same policies, while Ahavah Gay is allowlist only.

All instances allow registration, with a reason provided!

For details about what should happen to the instances in the unfortunate event of needing to shut down, see this document: https://kvetch.kibbutz.gay/chai/in-case-of-shutdown-timeline. In summary: The Kibbutz will have 6 months, the other two are 3 months. We also have backup moderation from outside the instance which can assist if all of our team becomes indisposed.

A good question indeed

I largely support Ukraine and its defense against the Russian invasion, but not at the cost of collaborating with neo-nazis or in the use of cluster weapons.

Even war must have limits.

Tradition Journal mourns the passing of Prof. Shalom Rosenberg, one of our generation's most prominent Jewish philosophers. Read his 2006 essay on "Fate and Destiny" concerning "Kol Dodi Dofek" by Rabbi Soloveitchik. Look for an essay by Prof. Rosenberg, "A Narrow Bridge: Rabbi Nahman of Breslov's Faith in a World of Doubt" in next issue.
