This year's Nobel Prize in Economics is timely, given the challenges faced by democratic institutions, particularly in industrialized countries.

We know — and our rulers certainly know — that if we are to have any hope of preserving even a limited version of today’s complex modern society, greenhouse gas emissions MUST go down, swiftly and urgently.

But instead, emissions continue going up and up and up. It is literally suicidal.

So, WHY haven't we stopped burning fossil fuels?

Because there are profits to be made. Huge, massive, irresistibly tempting profits.

In a sane world, these actions would be seen as criminal.

Perpetrators like fossil fuel executives, their financiers, and the politicians who enable them, would be arrested, charged, tried, and convicted, with assets forfeited to pay for mitigation and reparations.

But we do not live in a sane world.

Ready for news that will shock nobody? It turns out globalization mostly helps out the richest 10% and has little to no impact on the poorest.

"The influence of globalization on income inequalities worldwide was greater than we had expected. We were particularly surprised that these differences were mainly due to the gains of the richest and that the lower income groups benefited little or not at all."

@camdoncady @joshbressers please go read joelonsoftware.com/2000/04/06/… and then think about the context of @bagder having copious knowledge and access to expertise for url related shenanigans and C. Implementing this in rust is extremely non trivial and would likely result in a lot of fun new problems.

In other words, sometimes you gotta work with the tools that you’re most experienced with. Also, in the hands of an expert, even dangerous tools can be reasonably safe and effective. There’s a cost to making people switch their tools and learn new things, and they may or may not be a payoff that makes it worthwhile. #Economics.

Huh. Didn't even need a viral subsite or anything.

>The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) has imposed a penalty of nearly RM415.5 million against five poultry feed manufacturers for infringing Section 4 of the Competition Act 2010 (Act 712) by forming a price-fixing cartel for poultry feed.

>(...)MyCC said its investigation uncovered evidence of identical increments in poultry feed prices among the parties from January 2020 to June 2022 in addition to finding that the five enterprises had employed a calculated strategy to create the illusion of rising poultry feed costs due to hikes in raw material costs.

>It added that WhatsApp chats and call logs recovered--

🤣 ANYWAY it's these fools: Leong Hup, FFM, Gold Coin, Dindings, and PK Agro.

This is the first thing I’ve seen from a major press outlet that even resembles a stick in the eye of conventional economic wisdom. And it is absolutely on point.

We must scream at the top of lungs, and shame any who dare, try to defend the conventional orthodox economic machine that is tearing our children’s future down around their ears. #FUCKNORDHAUS!!!

Please, I beg you, circulate this article as far and wide as you can.
